Languedoc-Roussillon Holiday cottages & villas

Make a holiday rental, home, or villa in France your home away from home

Languedoc-Roussillon is a southern region of France, bordering with Andorra and Spain, boasting 150 miles of unspoilt Mediterranean coastline, traditional quiet villages, and the world’s most popular nudist town; Cap d’Agde. It is a relatively undiscovered part of the country, and has a huge amount to offer for tourists on any length of stay in a Languedoc-Roussillon holiday rental. The breath-taking coastal scenery has inspired artists like Picasso and Matisse, and the cuisine in this part of France is some of the best available.

Places to holiday in Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon, France encompasses five French departments; Aude, Gard, Herault, Lozere and Pyrenees-Orientales.

The Aude is largely undiscovered by the tourist trade. Apart from the Mediterranean beaches, the Aude has remained remarkably unaffected by tourism. The river valleys and mountains and remain open to hikers and mountain bikers, and the medieval cities of Carcassonne and Narbonne need exploring. The Canal du Midi offers 150 miles of waterways to explore Aude at the most leisurely of paces, stopping for locks, pubs or a cycle down the tow-path.

Gard has only a short coastline, with 12 miles of beaches to the south. However, Gard does enjoy mountainous regions and flat fertile plains. The Pont du Gard and the Roman buildings of Nimes are a local treasure.

Herault is the connoisseurs’ choice of Languedoc-Roussillon department, famous for oysters and full bodied red wines. The vineyards are so productive here, that they paid for the re-building of Beziers after it burnt to the ground in 1209. The port of Sete is one of the most important fishing villages in the French Mediterranean.

Lozere is the least populated department in France, situated away from the coast, and fairly remote, Lozere allows you to fully relax, away from the buzz of everyday life. A rental villa here lets you recuperate fully, surrounded by the vintage wines of Languedoc-Roussillon.

Pyrenees-Orientales however has a large stretch of coast, as well as deep forests and mountain peaks to the west. It is therefore a hugely popular destination, offering a huge variety of activities. This is reflected by the huge choice and variety of holiday villas, gites, self-catering apartments and luxury accommodation available to rent.
