Date of Stay: September 2008
We stayed in La Briasse for a long weekend in the 2nd half of September 2008, arriving on the Friday and leaving on the Monday and enjoyed almost every minute of our stay.
The weather was still great (>25C). We flew in with Ryanair to Limoges and had a rental from the airport. The drive to the cottage already was a pleasure and is just over an hour. Dawn sent us a route description and we didn’t have to search even one time.
The cottage is very well equipped and not just standard. The split level makes it a nicer cottage compared to the many cottages we had been before. The cottage is very functional and still very cosy and we felt quickly like being “at home”.
The living area with good couches, radio, CD, DVD, satellite with loads of entertainment present, like video’s, DVD’s and a lot of board games.
The dining area and kitchen offered more then our own house and even cooking was a pleasure. No lack of any tool.
Two spacious bedrooms with good beds. Sleeping is a pleasure as hardly any traffic is coming by and the rooms are excellent darkened to get a real rest.
The bathroom is quite big and offers a bath and separate shower and a sink and we never experienced lack of hot water. The bath is great and no taps in the way, not even when having a bath together.
But when the weather is ok, there is no wanting of being in the house. A wonderful big garden and a separate pool area drags you out of the cottage and with the sun beds, picnic tables, barbeque (area) and even a bar, it is a great place to enjoy the day and the evening. The garden is well set up and sunny from early morning till late in the evening and the plants are wonderful.
No matter which direction one will go, there are (too) many places to see and go to within 50 sq. miles. A lot of castles open to the public, Musea, waterfalls, lakes, nice little medieval towns and villages and great sceneries.
A car is needed as the cottage is at least a 15 minutes walk from the nearest village, Ayen. Great restaurants and more than reasonable pricing for “Burgundy” meals
The only remark that we could think of was the fact that the pool turned out not to be heated and with the water only 20C we discovered that it was too cold to enjoy it, after using it one time.
We can very much recommend this cottage as we were able to (re-) load our battery again in just a weekend in one of the nicest cottages in a very rural setting.
Owner's Response: Arend, thank you for your lovely comments. I am really sorry that the pool heating wasn't working - this was because the week prior to your arrival it had been very hot so I switched it off.
As you know a friend greeted you and let you in as I was away on a family visit in the North of France, where it was still very warm.
Had I known that the weather had cooled down I would have been delighted to explain how to switch it back on.
I have remedied this eventual problem by adding instructions on operation of pool heating to the book I leave at the house.
