The Well House at La Haute Garde is a restored stone built cottage in the ground of a 17th century farmhouse surrounded by fields and trees but without being isolated. The outdoor roofed terrace overlooks the garden and its cypress trees. Lounging on the cushioned benches, you will enjoy a colourful display of lavender, geraniums, fig tree and the fine touches of a professional gardener.

Anché is a rural village on the banks of the river Vienne which offers a swimming and picnic area. The town of Chinon is only 5 miles away with public swimming pool, tennis court, bicycle hire, shops and many restaurants of good standing. The town is very picturesque with its medieval houses and château. Most of the châteaux of the Loire Valley are within easy reach for day trips as is the famous Fontevraud abbey where the Plantagenet kings are buried including Richard The Lion Heart. Chinon is also renowned for its wine and the wineries to visit are plentiful.

Nice cottage in the heart of Loire-Valley

This cottage is absolutely value for money! You get a lot of space for a family including a large kitchen and a functionable bathroom. The cleaning standard at arrival was fine and it is quite modern facilities but in a very charming original well-house with nice antique furniture. Especially the big terrace with it´s sitting facilities provides both lot of sun and lot of shadow depending on what you prefer. We had our breakfast, lunch and dinner outside every day for a week in the summerperiod and even when it´s a bit windy or rainy you can enjoy the terrace due to the big roof that is above it. In front of the terrace is the most beatiful garden - we can recommend you to go there for a rural quite holiday with only a few kilometers to the nice city of Chinon. The well-house is hosted by mr. David Thomas who - during the summer-time - stays in the mainhouse; he´s a friendly landlord! So thank You, David, for a pleasant stay. Maybe we will be back someday.

A wonderful place for a getaway

Conveniently located close to some of the most exiting chateaux de la Loire, the Well House is suited for a pleasant, relaxing holiday. Both the house and garden are beautiful and taken care of with a lot of love and attention. If you are lucky to have the house owner living right next door, you will receive a lot of useful recommendations for tours - close and far, for cultural events and more.
The closer surroundings invite for cayak and bikes rides at an easy pace, a full-day visit to Chinon, and the cities Tours, Samur and Langais are within an hours' car drive.
A wonderful place for a getaway - with our warmest recommendations for anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday, and with many thanks to the owner for all his care.
