Le Clos St Vincent is situated in the quiet, hilltop hamlet of Le Bourg, St Julien de Chedon, and is surrounded by vineyards which produce the world-famous Touraine wines. St Julien lies in the valley of the beautiful River Cher, near the pretty medieval town of Montrichard, with its donjon, small shops, restaurants, pleasure beach on the banks of the river and twice-weekly market. Within easy reach are many of the chateaux of the Loire Valley – Chenonceaux, Amboise, Loches, Chambord, and many more – and the historic cities of Blois and Tours with their pedestrianised medieval quarters and fine shopping areas. For families with younger children, great days out might include canoeing on the river, the Zoo de Beauval, the Mini -chateaux or the aquarium at Amboise, the fantasy Forest or, at a slightly greater distance, Futuroscope at Poitiers. Beautiful gardens, fine food and wines, walking, cycling .... there is plenty to see and do in this wonderful corner of France!

From the New Zealanders

Review Submitted: August 31, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
We spent a week at Le Clos St Vincent at the end of a 3 month holiday in Europe. We were looking for somewhere to kick back and enjoy a quiet and relaxing time - and this was perfect! The gite is very well set-up with everything one could possibly need. It is spotlessly clean, both inside and out, and the expansive garden gives a roomy feel that most others are lacking. The description and photos give an excellent representation of the property, so there are no nasty surprises. (From our experience one can't always say that!!)

The gite is ideally located to visit the many attractions of the area - whether it be the chateaus, the towns and cities, the vineyards, or the supermarkets/shopping, all are within easy reach. And at the end of a busy day heading back out into the country to the gite is both refreshing and relaxing.

Paul and Sue, the owners, are delightful hosts and did everything and anything we needed. Because they live on site there is always the possibility of the owners getting too involved or overpowering - this was never a problem and they struck a perfect balance between being there to help and allowing us our own privacy.

One could not write a review of Le Clos St Vincent without mentioning Byron. Some people might be concerned about having a dog on the property but Byron is an absolute delight and never a problem. The squirrels might not be quite so keen on him but, like Paul and Sue, he knew when to stay away and when he was welcome to visit.

We have no hesitation in recommending this gite to anyone visiting the Loire Valley. There are lots of gites in this part of France but this one is a standout - you will not be disappointed.

Review of a wonderful two weeks

Review Submitted: August 19, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We spent a wonderful two weeks here in June 2011. The cottage has everything required for a relaxing stay and a nice garden to relax in. Paul & Sue are excellent hosts and they made us very welcome. I t is an ideal location for visiting the many chateau, gardens, towns and villages in the Loire Valley area. We spent many an hour walking the lanes and vine fields that are on the doorstep. I would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to anyone that would like to see the many attractions within the area.

Best trip to France to date

Review Submitted: August 7, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We are a family with three young children, finding a place to stay can be a bit of an adventure. That being said, this was the most relaxing trip to date. Mostly due to the rental of this gite. Initial contact left me knowing that the children would be welcome, the reservation was easily made and confirmed, and the hosts were were extremely helpful in finding an equestrian center for us. The location is perfect as it is 30 minutes or less to many attractions. The gite itself is comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Our hosts were always available to make suggestions, answer questions, or help with reservations. The children loved playing in the beautiful garden, and especially enjoyed playing with Byron. If we go to the same area in France, we will definitely be staying here again.

Our Stay in Chateau Country

Review Submitted: July 20, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
Paul and Sue were very gracious hosts and were very helpful as my husband and I had never been to this area of France. I am not usually fond of dogs (barking) so I was a bit apprehensive that the hosts owned a dog. Well, by the end of our stay I wanted to take Byron home with us. He never barked once and greeted us everyday with his wonderful doggie smile. Also, the house was perfect-totally quiet and very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect for visiting the chateaus. Montrichard, which is about 5 minutes away had everything you could want-restaurants, grocery store, ATMs, etc. and was lovely besides. I would highly recommend this lovely house for visiting the chateau country.

Clean, comfortable, good location

Review Submitted: November 17, 2010 Date of Stay: October 2010
Stayed in this lovely gite for a week . It is in a quiet village which is ideal for walks and there are lots of interesting places nearby to visit. We particularly liked Chenonceau and Amboise.

The house is clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything needed for cooking. Paul and Sue are very helpful. It all came up to expectations apart from the internet access which turned out to be available only in the shared laundry area.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: We recognise that Internet access has been a problem for guests who needed more than a few minutes on line. We have now invested in a Wi-fi extender, which should boost the signal into the gite, and save people the inconvenience of sitting (or standing) in the laundry.
