Area & Things To Do
La Peynaud Grange is 3km away from the Bastide of Duras which is an historic market town with a lively regular Monday market it lies on a hillside along the River Dropt, with its magnificent views over many vineyards. The Chateau of Duras overlooks the valley with its beautiful landscape of rolling hills. Duras has many things to see & do such as biking & bike hire, boating, canoeing, fishing, horse riding, golf, kayaking, tennis, lovely walks, wine tasting at both the market & Chateau des Ducs du Duras circa 1137 castle which was purchased by the town of Duras in 1969 & sympathetically restored over 20yrs to its original state. You could witness laser technology which brings the chateau to life with troubadours, knights, ladies & the music of the great hall. Duras offers excellent shopping, restaurants, bars boulangeries (bakeries) supermarkets, chemist, banks, exchange office, post office & a very helpful tourist information office.
Area & Things To Do
LAC de Castelgaillard is a large, beautiful lake only 5km from La Peynaud Grange which offers archery, canoe and windsurfing hire, riding stables, picnic areas & restaurants, sandy beach, swimming, waterslides etc. Golfing - there are two 9 hole and three 18 hole golf courses withing 20 to 40 minutes from Duras. Museums - Le muse`e de l'outil ancien a` Soumensac- this museum consists of 1000 ancestral tools. Free entry. Le muse`e du parchemin et de l'enluminureree entry- located in the centre of town - explains the technique of creating manuscripts in the Middle Ages using parchment, ink & colours.The academy also offers a calligraphy workshop for up to 50 students.
Day Trips
Recommended towns to visit are Bergerac, Bastide towns of Duras, Ste-Foy-la-Grande, Eymet & Monsegur. The city of Bordeaux is approx lhr 30mins away ideal for boutique shopping, sight seeing or culture, travel 20 mins further & experience Arcachon with its famous sand dunes & swim in the Atlantique Ocean. Visit Sarlat with its wonderful buildings a backdrop for many historic films, with many pavement restaurant and bars.
