Glorious summer sun in rolling countryside 70kms from the Pyrenees La Maison, Caignac is set in 2 acres of formal gardens/ small wood. Built in 1707 and converted to luxury level in 2003. Suits large multi family groups and reunions. Private heated saltwater pool, tennis court, boules court, cricket net and outdoor chess. Located near village shop/bar/café. Inside games room with pool table, pin table, table football and pub darts. Outside dining under a vine clad pergola with purpose built barbeque and pizza oven. 40 minutes from airports at Toulouse and Carcassonne. One hour's drive to the ski lift at Ax-le-Thermes for day skiing between December and April and wonderful hill walking in summer. Cycle the towpath of the Canal du Midi, go sailing on the Lac Ganguise, white water raft, parachute, explore caves, horse ride, walk the Cathare Trail, check out Carcassonne or just chill in the lovely grounds and hit the local restaurants in the evening. La Maison Caignac is situated on the border of the Languedoc (Aude) and the Midi-Pyrenees (Ariege and Haute Garonne). It is in 'Cathare Country' a sect purged by the Catholic forces in the early 13th century shortly to be given focus in the up-coming movie The da Vinci Code. There are many ancient Cathar castles and sites of interest to explore and there is the mystery of Rennes-le-chateau (Google that!) to understand. The Lauragais is just west of the wine growing area of the western languedoc and the agriculture is cereal and sunflowers. Rolling countryside wonderful for walking, cycling and horse riding. One hour from the sea at Narbonne plage and the Pyrenees mountains.

    There should be no extras as all bed linen, towels (bath and pool) are included. All power - electricity and wood for the barbecue and internal fires/wood burner if required is included and a wifi connection includes free phone calls.
  • Should the property be available during periods outside the high season it is possible to rent for long weekends for the sum of £1000. Typically this will be a four/five day stay arriving on a Thursday and leaving on the Monday/Tuesday
  • A chef/cook-in service is available at an additional charge

Notes: The house can be split into three discrete areas by locking three doors allowing separate families their own private space. This can be useful if one family has young children who tend to be up early in which case they can breakfast in one of the three kitchens without disturbing the rest of the house. Meals tend to be taken in the large central area or, indeed, outside on the terrace. All towels (bath and pool are supplied) as is all bed linen. There is a maid service on Saturday and midweek on Wednesday if required. The house 'meeter and greeter' is a superb chef and is available to buy, cook and present meals if your in house chef wants a night off. A baby sitting service is available.

Golf: There are a number of courses within 30-60 minutes' drive. There are four on the outskirts of Toulouse i.e within 40 minutes, one at Carcassonne in the grounds of the Domaine d'Auriac hotel and the particularly challenging Golfe d'Ariege some 10kms to the west of Foix. Club hire is available at all the pro-shops. All details are available in the Info Book within the house

Water Sports: Two options: Sailing, wind surfing, canoeing and the hire of pedaloes are available within 5kms (ten minutes) on the Lac Ganguise a dammed, man-made lake currently 5kms long and 1km wide. Over the next four years the water level will rise by 9mtrs and its length will become 12kms. Power sports - jetski, water skiing, para-ascending takes place at the Base Nautique at Tarascon some 55kms (40 minutes) away. Again details are available in the Info Book in the house

Snow skiing: Many people rent the house in the skiing season and venture to the slopes on a daily basis - or miss out and just chill by the huge log fires in the house. Caignac is one hour's drive from the bottom of the 'big lift' at Ax-les-Thermes a delightful soa town with casino where one parks at 700m and takes the 16 man bubbles to Bonascre at 1400. Ski hire is available here and a six man bubble takes one up to 2100m. The two lifts take 28 minutes. The ski area is Ax- les Trois Domaines and buttons/chairs then go up to a maximum of 2300. The skiing fields of Andorra are a further 45 minutes' drive. The two main lifts work throughout the summer giving access to lovely walking and mountain biking.
