Quercy town hall with panoramic views, 200 ft, above the Lot valley
Situated some 200 feet directly above the Lot Valley, commanding direct views of the river and its valley from all sides of the property, this former town hall and school is afforded with possibly some of the best views in the Lot Valley. The property has been renovated and converted with a mix of true French Quercy tradition and modern French Chic to a very individual self contained Gite. The gite has its own ‘patio terrace’ overlooking the rear of the property with far reaching views towards Cajarc Sur Lot, some 15 km distant. To the front are individual window balconies that have views towards the 17C Cenevieres Chateaux and further towards Saint Cirq Lapopee. A local villager runs a small horse ridding school, located a 5 minute drive away, where horses can be taken for lessons. From the terrace and balcony can be seen the wildlife of the Lot, with nesting Eagles, Kestrels and Kites, the property gives views of birds that are rarely seen in Northern Europe.

The village of Calvignac has a small, quiet, village bar (seasonal) and a good local style restaurant, serving typical Quercy cuisine and with an overhanging wooden terrace across a cliff with magnificent views. The area is so unspoilt and yet so accessible by tourists. The area provides all aspects for visitors from swimming to pot holing. Local attractions include the Egyptian museum in Figeac along with the former ‘’Bank de France’’. Older history includes prehistoric paintings and dwellings in caves of the Grotte de Pech Merle and the Grotte de Bellevue, all within 15 minutes of the property. In the nearby town of Cajarc, there are several supermarkets, garages, newspaper shop, a post office, antique shops (Brocante), restaurants and bars. Cajarc also has a large swimming pool and other leisure facilities such as water skiing (sur Lot) and paragliding from the peaks of the surrounding high 'Causse'. We also have use of a swimming pool witin a 15 min walk.

The latter available through the managers of our Gite. Furthermore, in the village we have a communal tennis court (hard surface), payable locally. On arrival, we have arranged for a local English-French speaker to be available who can help with directions along with advice about your stay. Excellent walking in the surrounding countryside, wonderfully views outside of the high season and the fall is quite spectacular. Flights to the region are cheapest via Rodez (from the UK) on Ryan Air and can be taken for less than £30 each |
Further details for the chateau / country house in Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France
We welcome all our guests, either personally or through our local meet and greet property manager. Locally there are swimming pools including one at a local very small campsite in the valley which, in addition to restaurants in the village has a small restaurant and bar which proves very well placed for our guests. We have been lucky enough in the past couple of years to have guests stay with us from Australia, USA and Canada as well as Europe and have been lucky also to have several repeat visits. Our home here, we hope, has been made to feel like a home away from home and one that fits, comfortably, in the French way of life. It is neither a sterile or blank canvas, but one that reflects the French life and has such profound history embedded within the character of the both the building and village. In our opinion, one of the loveliest villages in France.
if you are planning a special weekend or holiday - do please let us know. We will happily arrange for flowers, champagne etc... we can also make a booking at a local gastronomic restaurant for you should you choose, simply let us know your requirements and we can discuss the arrangements with you.

Dear Ben and Rachel, Paul and I had a wonderful time in Calvignac. The weather was perfect and the scenery even more beautiful in its springtime splendour. We'll certainly consider further visits! We had to leave one day earlier than anticipated so didn't have a chance to write our comments in the book which would have been nothing less than glowing! Yours, Susan Licence. Dear Ben and Rachel, We had an absolute ball. Thanks for thinking of everything, we will return. Weather in October at 27C quite wonderful. Thanks again, Rob and Jane.
Other Activities ballooning (hot air), wine tasting, caves, water ski, nature, walking
Golf Information:
There are 9 and 18 hole courses within 30kms of the property.

Dear Ben and Rachel - Thank you for renting out the apartment to us last week..... we enjoyed the location, the facilities and the building very much, especially the balcony and will be recommending the place to our friends and family. Yes we fell in love with the area and the village in particular. Wendy and Archie McDonald
Hi Ben and Rachel We are home now in Australia and about to resume our weekly routine
tomorrow .We really enjoyed our stay in Calvignac at the Gite. The views
were unbelievable and romantic, so high up and the morning mist in the valley added a
mystic touch to it all. We found the village very convenient to all the
sites. We would be happy to recommend your Gite for a stay in the Lot area and particularly for any
Australian guests you may have. Please feel free to give our phone number to
any of them who contact you , as we want them to enjoy your gite as much as we did. Kind regards Ian and Meredith Babidge (Australia)
