Golden stone buildings round a grassed courtyard in an exceptionally quiet location in 25 acres of meadows and woodland, CUBERTOU is perfect for activity holidays (painting, music, yoga…) or for special family celebrations, including wedding parties. The house, with its vine-shaded terrace, sleeps 8, opposite a huge barn for candle lit suppers and deep shade on summer days. Add converted barn rooms to sleep up to 15 more. Whatever you choose you have the place to yourself. BBQ, ping-pong, badminton, 'boules', games and music are provided. Swimming, canoeing/kayaking, horse-riding, bike hire, rock climbing are all within easy reach. Explore medieval villages and castles, prehistoric caves, Romanesque masterpieces, Richard the Lionheart country ... and Cahors vineyards in this famed gastronomic area. Or sit back and enjoy orchids and other wild flowers, many species of butterflies and birds, wild deer emerging in the evening ... and amazing night skies in this light pollution free area.

Cubertou is in the verdant Lot valley, a landscape of gentle hills and vineyards, just outside the delightful village of Saint Martin le Redon, with its historic medieval tower and church. Nearest shops are in the market town of Duravel, just five minutes drive (or a pleasant walk through the woods). The city of Cahors, founded by the Romans on the Lot river, is an easy 40 minutes drive along the Lot river valley, is linked to France's excellent motorway network, and has a good train service to Paris. The area of the Lot and neighbouring Dordogne is famous for its abundance of historic places of interest - prehistoric cave paintings, Romanesque sculpture, fairy-tale castles and medieval 'bastide' villages... And the street markets and village fêtes are a delight ... fruit and vegetables fresh from the fields (including local melons and 'Chasselas' table grapes ), as well as farm produced goose and duck products, goat's cheese, walnuts, saffron and of course Cahors 'appellation' wines.

Bathing & Water sports: Cubertou is within easy reach (15-20 minutes) of several well maintained bathing lakes and open air swimming pools. There is a water sports centre for kanoeing and kayaking on the Lot river in nearby Puy l'Evèque (15 minutes drive). A little further north you can kayak downstream from Souillac on the Dordogne river, enjoying spectacular scenery, and be drivein back to your point of departure.

Children: Cubertou welcomes children, and parents appreciate the fact that there is no road or pool risk (Cubertou is in its own 10 hectares or 25 acres of fields and woodland). The bamboo grove also provides a shady enclosed garden where toddlers can play safely. We can provide extra stair gates, children's cots, a high chair etc. on request and there are children's audio tapes and games.

Cook, housekeeper, babysitter: With enough notice we can usually arrange for local helpers who know Cubertou well to clean or cook for you, or help with children, during your stay.
