The house, Marican, is 10-15 minutes drive from Mazamet and easy to find and a delight when we did. Having been driving all day it was lovely to arrive knowing dinner was being cooked for us - we were staying in a self catering gite (La Grange) but as owners Carmel and Gerry also run the house as a B & B they offer a 'dining-in' service for their gite guests. Gerry's cooking is amazing. We had two 8 year olds with us and our year old dog who also had a wonderful holiday with Carmel and Gerry's dog. The children loved the swimming pool and running wild in the large garden; especially den building along with Carmel and Gerry's son.
Marican is in a quiet location, being set in the countryside, but that really is its charm. However, it isn’t difficult to find things to do, relatively locally is a small water slide park and a great swinging thru the trees experience (Le Cri de Tarzan) also nearby are several mountain lakes with swimming and water sports, and you can walk into the nearby woods from the gates to the house. There is a golf course in Mazamet. The beach is about an hour away, Carcassonne is closer and well worth a visit. Toulouse is also just over an hour away and a visit to the Space Musuem (Cite de l'Espace) is a must. However, a lazy day by the pool is equally inviting.
Our gite (La Grange) was clean and well maintained, it had a lovely raised deck and all three bedrooms had ensuite shower rooms. The kitchen had everything we needed, dishwasher, oven and microwave etc and there is also a washing machine. Linen was changed weekly and lots of towels are supplied for the swimming pool and bathrooms.
Carmel and Gerry were the perfect hosts with lots of local knowledge and could not have been more helpful and friendly.
We had a wonderful holiday at Marican, and would certainly recommend it.
