The drive from Mazamet to Carcassonne is on the Montagne Noire circuit taking in on that short journey many attractions, the hill top castles at Lastours, the medieval village of Hautpoul, the caves at Limousis and the giant underground cavern of Gabrespine. On the same mountain road is Le Lac de Montagnes which has man made beaches suitable for bathing as well as lovely forest walks. Castres with its famous riverside houses is only 20 minutes drive, the interesting Sidobre region with its amazing granite stone formations is only 9 km beyond Casters.
