This stone cottage, built in 1793, is situated in a hamlet and is 5 minutes walk from the village of Teyssieu. Deep in the country, and ideal if you enjoy walking, bird life and superb scenery. At the end of the day, enjoy the sun set from the terrace, with a view of 15-20 miles, or try several very good restaurants within easy reach if you've still got the energy!

Nearest Airport: Rodez, Toulouse or Bordeaux at 40 Miles
Ussel is at around 1,700 feet, with good views to the lower areas to the west and north-west. It is within easy reach of the famous site of Rocamadour, and the Dordogne River is close by. Both Cahors to the south and the popular parts of the Dordogne valley to the west are within easy reach for day trips.

We are close to two of France's 'Grande Rondonnee' marked walks through the countryside, much of which is virgin woodland. You can hire mountain bikes in nearby Bretenoux. We are also close to Rocamadour, France's second foremost pilgimage site. You can swim or canoe in the Dordogne river nearby, or visit a large number of caves, several with prehistoric paintings. There are a lot of chateaux, mostly open to the public, particularly along the Dordogne valley which saw much of the action of the 100 years' war.

"You don't own it, so why do you keep coming back?" a newly arrived Brit barn-owner asked me some years ago. I explained that I, and all the friends I've brought here over the years, have found it an ideal place for unwinding and rebuilding our energy levels. A rare glimpse of truly rural France, the cottage exudes serenity and has everything you need for a great get-away-from-it-all holiday, plus fabulous scenery. There are many places and attractions to visit in the area, and excellent restaurants. But the best recommendation I can give is that next month will be my 23rd holiday at this cottage.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
