Two superbly restored stone cottages with a swimming pool

Two adjacent but separate cottages, one with three bedrooms and the other with two bedrooms. Ideal for two families wishing to holiday together but wanting some space to call their own. They are let as one in high season. Both properties are fully equipped with ovens, microwaves, gas hobs and fridge freezers. Both have large pantiled verandas. They share a south facing garden with a fenced swimming pool. The garden backs onto open farmland. There is no through traffic as the hamlet is a cul de sac at the top of a hill. There are pleasant views across the valley below in which sun flowers and lavender are grown. The cottages are comfortably furnished with large traditional stone fireplaces. There is plenty of garden furniture for alfresco dining and sun loungers for relaxing around the pool. A chilled meals service at modest prices can be delivered on a 'same day' basis, if required. It is possible to arrange a 25% discount on ferry bookings with P&0.

Notes:

The Cottages are ideal for two families holidaying together and are let as one. The polished wooden open tread staircases could be a hazard to very young children. The pool is fenced for the protection of children under five. The larger three bedroom cottage has a large, comfortable attic room with twin beds approached by its own staircase. It has restricted head room around the sides but is still very attractive as a bedroom. Please note that the accommodation and facilities described are overall for the two cottages. Although the large majority are duplicated, not all facilities listed are in each cottage. A chilled meals service is available for delivery on a 'same day basis', if required. The cottages have thick stone walls and original beams. Each cottage has a stone fireplace and is comfortably furnished. A swimming pool measuring 8m by 5m was installed recently. This is situated in a south facing garden backing onto farmland and is a pleasant place to sit after a swim.

Swimming Lakes and activities.

In two of our local villages are lakes with white sand beaches for swimming. These are patrolled by life guards in the school holidays . There are diving boards, flumes, tennis, mini golf and a restaurant. They are very popular with all age groups and as well as shaded picnic areas there are good walks and a pathway which goes right round the lake. Entry is just a few euros and tennis rackets and balls are available for hire. Bike hire is also available. They can be delivered if required. Donkey hire is also very popular, for children to walk them to a picnic spot. An 18 hole (huge bunkers and water hazards) and a nine hole golf course are about half an hour's drive away. Canoeing, boat trips, fishing, riding and many other activities are all available locally. For a day out, there is a Walibi Park and the world famous Limestone Caves with pre historic paintings of animals. Local Tourist Offices have details of many other attractions and an information file is in each Cottage

Restaurants

There is a wide range to choose from. The grand Chateau de L'Hoste is very friendly with a choice of meals for children and use of the pool where light lunches can be enjoyed from their summer kitchen. Their chef is first rate and top nouvelle cuisine is available in the evenings. A smaller but equally good restaurant, called Le Moulin, is in a nearby village. In Roquecor itself, an English owned restaurant is extremely popular, especially for Sunday lunch . There are many other good restaurants both locally and further afield.

Bastide Villages and Music Festivals.

Roquecor is itself one of the hundreds of these fortified hill top villages in this part of France. Their history goes back to medieval times. Nowadays, they are attractive market villages frequently colonnaded around the high up central squares and with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Bustling cafes and bistros line the market squares. These are colourful meeting places for the local people. In the summer months many and varied music festivals take place including jazz, reggae, pop and classical as well. The pace of life in this part of France is slow and contagious. Walk, ride, canoe, fish or swim and you will relax. Or just enjoy strolling around the markets in the warm sunshine. Is it any wonder that the people here are some of the longest lived in Europe.

Other Activities table tennis, barbecues, bike hire. A donkey for children to walk to a picnic spot can also be hired.

We wanted to write to thank you and also to tell you what a wonderful holiday we had. The cottages and the area were just idyllic having all the comforts of home and the pool as well. We hope to have another restful holiday like that and will certainly be in touch. Christine.

Thank you for allowing us to rent the cottages. It was a fantastic holiday. The accommodation was superb. We have fallen in love with the place, from the incandescent blue of the kingfishers hurtling along the stream at the bottom of the hill to the shooting stars. Once the euphoria has subsided we may contemplate buying a property in the region. John.
