Beautifully restored stone farmhouse and gite in spectacular setting
The properties are situated at the end of a tiny hamlet perched high up in the Aveyron/Languedoc hills in an area of unspoilt, natural beauty. Both have been imaginatively restored by artists who have used local terracotta tiles, stone-flags, polished wooden boards and chestnut beams to produce a light, airy and spacious feel throughout. Magnificent views are to be had from every room and walks of all lengths start at the door. The properties are completely independent of each other, but can be combined for large groups or extended families who might like to enjoy a joint holiday while also maintaining some space and privacy. Both are perfect for those seeking a relaxing holiday in completely peaceful surroundings.
Details for the farmhouse in Midi-Pyrenees, France
The farmhouse has five bedrooms, three doubles and two singles, a huge living area and well-equipped kitchen, a mezzanine study/TV area, two bathrooms and utility room. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the main living area and the house also has gas central heating. There are plenty of books, games, videos and CDs, as well as outdoor games such as badminton and boules. A pretty orchard-style garden provides plenty of shade for eating outdoors, and snoozing in hammocks. An open barn provides car parking and table tennis. The house is ideal for family holidays or for a relaxing ‘grown-up’ break away from it all.

The farmhouse
Thick stone walls not only give the farmhouse its character but also help to keep it cool in the hotter summer months. Rooms are large and comfortable as well as stylish. The house is fully equipped with a dishwasher and fridge/freezer in the kitchen, and a washing machine and chest freezer in the utility room. There is a well-stocked video library, two music systems and French TV, as well as plenty of books and board games. There are also tennis racquets, hammocks and a large paddling pool. There is a stone-flagged terrace in the orchard garden and a huge table for long lazy meals outdoors. A huge open barn provides shady car-parking and a large games area with a full-size table-tennis table.
The gite
The gite has thick stone walls and light, airy rooms. It is the perfect hideaway for couples or writers and the views from the top living area are truly breathtaking, with windows facing south, west and east. The south-facing roof terrace leading from the kitchen/dining area is enormous; also with impressive views, it is partly shaded and contains a large table for outdoor meals and a brick barbecue. This outdoor 'room' is a particular favourite with guests. There is also a small balcony area at the top of the stone steps leading to the front door.
The area
Once you are at La Combe Farinelle or La Mûrisserie you are in a world of your own and very far from the madding crowd. The complete peace of the area cannot be over-emphasised. At night you will look out across the hills and not see the light of another dwelling. Perfect for star-gazers, then, but also for lovers of nature and tranquillity, and for those who want to unwind away from the world’s bustle. But the world is not too far away for those who like to be more out and about, with plenty of fascinating places to visit, and for the very active there is tennis and riding close by, and sailing, canoeing and windsurfing within easy reach.
