idyllic Gascony

ChristineL Whyteleafe, Surrey, UK
Review Submitted: January 19, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
The house is in a lovely peaceful country location, but within a 10 minute stroll of the centre of the attractive market town of Mauvezin, with all facilities - supermarket, weekly market, boulangeries/patisseries, bars and family run restaurants. It's an excellent base for visits to the region as far as the Pyrenees and there is good walking, either from the house or within a short drive. Toulouse, one of my favourite cities, is an hour away by car and there are lots of pretty villages (bastides) and towns to explore. There are several countryside parks with swimming and other watersports within a short drive.
The caretakers, who live nearby, are very helpful, take care of any problems, but don't intrude and like it if you try out your schoolgirl French. They sell beautiful eggs from their own chickens and you may get a present of perfect tasting home-grown tomatoes or beans.
The house itself is very spacious, comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. As there is a downstairs shower room and loo, it would be fine for people with walking difficulties, provided they can manage the stairs at bedtime. There is plenty of off-road parking immediately in front of the front garden. The huge rear garden has loads of space for kids to run around in, without upsetting any neighbours.
I have visited several times and taken friends, who have always enjoyed it. I have very happy memories of lounging in the garden with a glass of local wine, under the shade of the chestnut trees when the sun was hottest or watching the sunset across the fields (another glass of wine!).

All in all a great place to relax, with plenty of places to visit.

Owner's Response: Dear Guests,

It gives me great pleasure to know that my visitors enjoy Gascony and my house as much as I do. I take all comments into account and I will do my very best to carry on improving the property and make sure that you always enjoy your stay.

With kind regards.

A charming holiday home

Clair & Tony London
Review Submitted: February 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed here with a group of friends 2 years ago, but had such a wonderful time, we have since returned with the family last year. The house is a stunning example of the local architecture. It is clean, spacious & light with everything you could require in the kitchen, bathrooms & sitting room. The garden is beautiful & we made plenty of use of the barbecue & garden furniture . It is also conveniently located 5 minutes walk from the charming town centre, with cafes, bars, local shops & dancing in the town square at the weekend. There is also a great open air swimming pool, which kept both the kids & grown-ups happy for hours. Highly recommended!

Vue du Lac - June 2007

Rebecca C London
Review Submitted: January 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
Vue du Lac is an idyllic hide-a-away that is perfect for getting away from it all, whether you are a family, couple of group of friends.
I went with a friend in June and had a wonderful time.
The description given is spot on but it is only by going that you will really experience the care and attention to detail that has gone into making this property the perfect for a base to explore this region of France.
The property is well-equipped and beautiffuly decorated. There are even some bikes that we wheeled out and used to explore the local villages.
The location of the property is brilliant as is quiet but close enough to the village centre. The village focal point is the squalre where you can relax in the cafes, buy fresh bread from the bakery and explore the market that they hold there during the week.
My highlight of activities in the area was the local swimming pool, which was brilliant. So clean and well maintained and great for the family.
All in all have not got a bad thing to say.....great property, great food and friendly people.
I had a wonderful time and came back very refreshed. Would reccommend to anyone.

Perfect escape!

Noushki London
Review Submitted: January 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
If you wish to escape from every day troubles, city noises, traffic, crowded trains and work, then there is no better place.
Morning run around the lake, strawberries and croissants from a local market for breakfast, a swim in a big public pool, afternoon cycling trip to discover the French country side, dinner in one of the market’s restaurants where you can make friends with the locals, or a quiet evening with a bbq in a lovely, green, peaceful garden.
Most of all – beautiful, charming house with everything you need to relax, switch off whilst enjoying a glass of wine, dvd, listening to the music or playing games.
I have been there last year in July and both I & my friend have agreed that 1 week there is just not enough. There is so much to do, so many places to see... I promise that a beauty of the French culture and simplicity of a small French town life will charm you forever… I can’t wait to go back!
