Spectacular Farmhouse with Pool, Games Room, Views & Contemporary Comforts
Click on owner's website link below for more photos and information. La Poujoulie was featured and highly recommended in an article in London's Evening Standard by one of their travel writers who stayed there. The property, on the edge of a tiny hamlet, has great views over beautiful countryside in every direction. We rent the main house [3 bedrooms] together with the cottage [2 bedrooms] for groups of up to 10 in spacious comfort in the peak season. Out of season, the house alone may be rented. Arranged around an attractive central courtyard, the property lends itself well to accommodating 2 families or 2 generations holidaying together. With a living room in each, full satellite TV including sports, a large games room, bicycles, a solar heated pool & a sunny garden, there's lots to enjoy at home. There are many outdoor pursuits (sailing, water skiing, canoeing, golf, etc.), and many interesting places to visit (including Cordes, Albi and Najac).
Details for the farmhouse in Midi-Pyrenees, France
The beautiful traditional house, fully modernised, dates back to 1830. It is built around a large central courtyard which links all the buildings - the farmhouse, the cottage and the barn (now a games room). We let the whole property out (up to 10 people) or, out of season, the house without the cottage (up to 6 people). The courtyard is perfect for alfresco meals under the pergola and is particularly pretty lit up at night. Renovation was completed 4 years ago. Renovated to a high standard everything is geared up for comfortable contemporary living - from the well equipped kitchen (including a big American fridge/freezer with ice-maker/chilled water facility) and separate utility room to satellite TV (UK programmes), video, music-system, comfy sofas and restful beds with cheerful cotton bedlinen. The games room has table tennis, pool, table football and a variety of outdoor games - board games, books, etc. in the house. The large swimming pool has solar heating.

| Notes: | The games room in the barn is everyone's favourite place and the scene of many a sporting contest! The cottage has bedrooms and shower room on ground floor so is suitable for people who find stairs difficult. Upstairs in the cottage is one big studio room with TV and a kitchenette area making it an ideal escape for teenagers, grandparents or a second family! Fencing ensures that small children can be kept out of the pool garden and within sight of the house. The garden is E, S & W facing with stunning views in all directions - particularly long to the south. There is a bar-b-que and plenty of garden furniture. For colder months the property is well insulated and has double glazing, gas central heating and there is an efficient wood burning stove in the farmhouse living room. We accept pets by prior arrangement and telephone/internet access, central heating and fuel for the wood burner is by arrangement and in addition to the rental costs. |
Entertainment & Activities:
Sporting & Leisure: Cap Decouverte, Blaye-les-Mines. (25 km distant) This vast leisure centre in a former open cast mine is one of a kind with dry ski slope, skate park, rail toboganning, water skiing and much more. Atlantis Waterpark at Albi (45 km) - long water slides, etc. 18 hole golf course at Albi. Lac de Pareloup near Rodez (70 km) - water sports and beaches. Lake near Carmaux (15 km) where you can hire sailing dinghys and pedalos. Riding and tennis in Mirandol (9 km). River fishing permits readily available. River canoeing and swimming. Vineyards near Gaillac where you can taste before you buy.
Historical:
Tarn is an area of fascinating medieval towns - such as Cordes-sur-Ciel, Najac and Albi (birthplace to the artist Toulouse Lautrec - visit his museum - and home to a magnificent 13th century cathedral). Open air brocante markets throughout the summer months in many locations.
Food & Gastronomy:
You will find most day to day food (wonderful fresh bread and pastries, butcher's, fruit and vegetables and small supermarkets) at Mirandol (9 kms) and Laguepie (12 kms) where there are also ATMs. For a bigger one-stop supermarket shop you must go to Carmaux (19 kms.) or better still, Albi (45 kms.) The best restaurant food is undoubtedly the local fare and in the summer little restaurants open up all over the place offering delicious straightforward meals based around the specialities of the region which are duck and foie gras. Though you'll also find pizza places and even the burger and chips have found favour in the bigger towns! (Actually chips in France are on most menus and quite delicious!). Needless to say the wine is abundant, excellent and inexpensive - try the local rose (sold by the 3 litres!) and ignore convention by serving it in a long glass with lots of ice - very refreshing!
Other Activities Former open cast mine at Blaye-les-Mines, now a vast leisure centre wih dry ski slope, skate park, rail toboganning and much more.
Golf Information:
Just outside Albi you will find a picturesque 18-hole golf course next to the River Tarn.

Magnificent holiday home!
tallullah, Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: June 19, 2008, Date of stay: May, 2008
Our family had the most wonderful holiday here, the house was supremely spacious and comfortable, and the hosts seem to have thought of everything. In fact it was the best-stocked rental house we've ever stayed in. The games room was a big hit and all members of the family were catered for, so altogether a truly harmonious holiday! The views around the house and pool area were magnificent and I would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for somewhere peaceful and "away from it all".
Owner's response:
Thank you Clair for taking the time to give such a positive review about your stay at La Poujoulie. We always love going there ourselves and it gives us great pleasure to know that others enjoy it as much as we do!
