Newly renovated farmhouse with the option of either a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom (all en-suite) gite which has magnificent views of the snow-capped Pyrenees and the Montagne Noir from two large balconies, the lounge and the dining area. The gite has a fully fitted kitchen with dining and living area, plus 2 spacious balconies under oak beams (7m x 4.5m and 3.5m x 4m), either can be used for outdoor eating if required. Tables and chairs are in place where you can eat and drink and admire the views of either the marvellous sunsets or the startling clear starry nights There is also a patio heater on the largest balcony. There is a 7m x 11m pool set in a peaceful tranquil area which is a natural sun trap, with comfortable loungers and umbrellas to shade you, if you so desire. This gite is child - free and non-smoking. Suzie, a professional chef, can provide a quality 4 course meal including aperitifs and wine which can be taken overlooking the magnificent views for 25 euros per person.

The property is situated in the centre of the Albi, Carcassonne and Toulouse tri-angle with the Revel market (often described as 'the best in the South of France') just a ten minute drive away. It is possible to visit a different market every day. Local wine areas include predominantly Gaillac, the Minervois, Cahors, Corbieres and Limoux.The area is well served by restaurants catering for all tastes from snack type food to Michelin star food. You can visit interesting historical sites in the Cathar region and take day trips on a narrow boat along the famous Canal du Midi. The nearest town 5 mins away- Puylaurens, has medieval origins and a weekly market. Castres, 20 mins away is an historical town with fascinating riverside houses, markets on most days and the Goya museum to visit. The property is centrally accessible to areas such as Albi, Agen, Cordes, Lautrec and the Tarn Gorges (superb for canoeing) - all well worth a visit.

Notes to the rental rates

  • The gite is let on a sole use occupancy basis.
    The prices quoted are for 3 bedrooms all en-suite, kitchen dining area and two balconies.
    If only two bedrooms are required, the prices will be adjusted accordingly. This applies to the high season period.
    However, for mid and low seasons, the gite may be occupied on a one bedroom arrangement and again, the price would be adjusted, ie for one bedroom in low season the rate would be £200 and in mid season it would be £250.
    A non-refundable deposit of 20% is required to confirm your booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to your arrival.
    There is also a £200 (300 Euros) breakages deposit, which will be refunded, less breakages seven days after the end of the holiday.
  • If an evening meal is required, then it does need to be booked by 10am of that day.
    Sample menus have included:
    1. Aperitif, Charcuterie with Celeriac Remoulade, Duck Breast with (home-grown) Plum sauce, served with Seasonal Vegetables from the local market, Local Cheeses, Raspberry Millefeuille, a Carafe of Wine and Coffee.
    2. Aperitif, Melon Balls with Cashew Nuts and Crispy Bacon in a Herby Dressing, Stuffed Pork Fillet with Fresh Apricots served with a White Wine and Cream Sauce and Seasonal Vegetables, Local Cheeses, Prune and Almond Tart, a Carafe of Wine and Coffee.
    3. Vegetarian meals are a speciality.
    Further menus can be 'e' mailed or discussed over the 'phone in preparation for your first evening.

The gite is let on a sole occupancy basis and the prices quoted are for 3 bedrooms, however, in high season it may be let on two or three bedrooms basis and the price adjusted. For mid and low season, the gite may be let on a one bedroom basis and the price would be adjusted accordingly. Discuss the possibilities with the owners. There are sunbeds and umbrellas around the pool and also under the acacia trees. There are numerous garden chairs that can be taken anywhere within the grounds to sit and read or paint or just admire the views in peace and quiet. There are barbecue and boules facilities for use within the grounds. Previous guests have all enjoyed the peace and tranquility of En Croup bas and often the highlight of their stay has been when they have had meals provided by Suzie remarking on the quality of the food and the convenience of not having to drink and drive.

Further Details

All bed linen and towels (including pool towels) are provided and are changed weekly. A starter pack can be provided for the start of the holiday for 30 euros. The gite has gas central heating via radiators in all rooms including bathrooms - useful for winter letting.

Other information - how to find us

Either Carcassonne or Toulouse airport can be used (both equal distance from the property). Ryanair, Flybe and British Airways fly into these airports from Stansted and Gatwick, London; Bristol; Liverpool; East Midlands and Birmingham. If you hire a car, it is reputed to be cheaper when booking with Ryanair to use 'Hertz'. If you are traveling by car, there are crossings by ferry from Dover to Calais, using Seafrance or P & O. When a booking is made, then a local directions map will be sent to you.
