Festivals and Fetes:
The midi-Pyrenees is a magnet for music festivals, all within half an hours drive: The Festival of country music is held in Mirande over five days in early July. The streets of Vic Fezensac are alive with the sounds of salsa during the Tempo Latino at the end of July. Marciac hosts an Internationally renowned Jazz Festival during first two weeks of August. The Medieval Fete at Montreal du Gers offers an evening of great entertainment for all the family. Enjoy the traditional cuisine and wine in the town square and watch in amazement as the entertainers flame-throw, swallow swords and balance precariously above on the tight-rope. Many crafts such as pottery and paintings are for sale around the square. Fources is a beautiful little town built in a circular formation around a circular central 'square'! This small but perfectly formed town holds regular brocante markets, a book market and a flower festival
Special Places:
THE PYRENEES: Ski or snowboard, rafting or walking; explore the alpine meadows and craggy mountain tops
LOURDES: The most visited shrine in Europe, take the pilgrimage and see beyond the commercial enterprise.
AUCH: Capital of the Gers. Well worth a visit. The cathedral has 113 carved oak choir stalls portraying more than 1500 figures and scenes. Nearby is the Escalier Monumental, a broad stairway of 370 steps on which stands an imposing statue of D'Artagnan the dashing and most famous of all Musketeers. Discover some pretty streets filled with lovely shops and plenty of cafes.
PAU: Delightful old town and stylish new shops, the two blend well. Castle and formal gardens to explore and views of the Pyrenees which are just out of this world. For something a little unusual, visit Pau in late June to watch the Grand Prix de Pau Historique, a premier International classic car race around the streets of Pau.
Golf:
Play some of the finest GOLF COURSES in South West France, within easy reach of Coutet. Play 18 holes at Golf de Guinlet championship course near Eauze just 15 minutes from Coutet. Near Auch the capital town of Gers, discover 18 holes at Golf d'Auch - Embats, afterwards relax and dine in their excellent restaurant. The wooded course at Fleurance and the 18 hole course at Golf de Gascogne, Masseube provide two more great days of golf within an hour's drive. Golf du Chateau de Pallanne offers a fabulous site of 18 holes and rolling fairways. Travelling 45 minutes west into Aquitane, you will find an 18 hole course at Golf de Mont de Marsan. For a shorter course of 9 holes visit Golf las Martines at L' Isle Jourdain. Not to be missed is the Pau-Billere course on the banks of the River Gave, built by the British Army in 1856 it is the oldest club in continental Europe. At 5,314 yards it is great fun to play. Lourdes Golf Club is probably one of the toughest courses in South West France, built on the side of a mountain adjacent to Lourdes Lake, almost entirely tree lined it will test your ability and stamina! There are 60 Golf courses in the SW, greens and fairways are permanantly green, most courses have electric buggies and are playable 52 weeks a year because of the excellent temperatures and weather conditions. Golf in South West France is quite relaxed with courses being extremely quiet throughout the year. Most courses have restaurants and some have green concessions.
