Walking::
The area around Najac is one of the finest in France for walking. The landscape is deeply cut by the winding gorges of the two rivers Viaur and Aveyron. The valleys are forested & quite wild, but easily accessible by clearly marked walks. Fine and varied domestic architecture abounds; beautiful clusters of houses in hamlets & villages often perched, like the medieval château, on prominent strategic points above the rivers. Within a few kilometres of Najac, one finds great variety of interest, Roman bridges, abandoned copper mines, & bastide towns like Villefranche-de-Rouergue, & Cordes. After thirteen years here in the Najac area, we still have much to discover and will be pleased to help our guests see some of it. We recommend April, May, June, Sept and Oct for walking & offer our guests two guided walks per week during these months. Bird watching here is excellent. Canoeing, rock climbing, & other sports are available. River swimming is first-rate and safe for all ages.
Village:
In the village there are café-bars, a baker, grocery shop, newsagent, pharmacy and a Doctor. Good restaurants of all price ranges and in the summer months, a Sunday market, but there are no discos! The municipal swimming pool and tennis courts are open in the summer.
Najac is well served by rail. Daily services to and from Toulouse, Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Figeac, Rodez and Paris. Toulouse airport is 1 ½ hours from Najac and Rodez 1 hour.
Pottery:
We are 10 minutes from the village and offer the chance to take pottery lessons. From beginner to more advanced level, all ages are welcome, please contact us for more details.
