In the centre of Maubourguet, a small market town in the South West of France, this elegant six-bedroom villa is an ideal self-catering holiday destination for families or groups of up to 14 people. It is suitable for children of any age. The villa offers spacious rooms, a good-sized fully enclosed garden and pool with safety fence. Within a minute or two's walk, there are shops, bars, restaurants, a public park and swimming pool and a weekly market. Nearby towns including Lourdes, Tarbes, Pau and Toulouse with it's Space Centre attraction. In the area, visitors can enjoy horse-riding, mountain biking, fishing, white-water rafting, mountain walking and many other outdoor pursuits. It's just hour's drive to the peaks of the Pyrenees and the Pic de Midi observatory. The coastal towns of St Jean de Luz and Biarritz are a little more than an hour's drive. Day trips to Spain are well within reach, either to the coast or the mountain villages.

Peace and quiet in the heart of the village: The house is opposite the Mairie (town hall) and less than a minute’s walk from the main village square. On the ground floor there's a comfortable lounge, extensive dining room and substantial, well-equipped kitchen opening on to a patio. Additionally there's an L-shaped day room with room to sit and relax or for the children to play. It opens on to the garden. There’s also a shower room, a toilet and a fully-equipped utility room on the ground floor. Upstairs there are six bedrooms, a second bathroom, a separate toilet and a shower room with toilet. The garden is fully enclosed and includes a pool, a patio and grassed areas offering sun and shade. The pool is 10m x 5m plus large shallow steps well-suited to smaller children and non-swimmers. It has a sunbathing terrace and is surrounded by a safety fence with self-closing gate.

Maubourguet: Maubourguet is situated in the Hautes-Pyrénées département. It's only 10 miles from Marciac, famous for the annual jazz festival. Around 2,500 people live in Maubourguet, so it’s equipped with everything you might need: a weekly market on Tuesdays plus a mini-market, supermarket, bakeries, post office, cash points, choice of bars and restaurants, park and sports fields all within ten minutes’ walk of the house.

Pyrenees: The beauty of the Pyrenees has made the mountains a popular destination for hiking, climbing, walking, cycling and – of course- skiing. Maubourguet is around 45 miles north of La Mongie Tourmalet, one of the major ski resorts in the Pyrenees, which offers downhill, off piste and cross-country skiing plus snowboarding, snow-shoeing, snow-mobiling and dog sledding. The Pyrenees are well suited to walking, whether you’re a novice or an expert. There are also a number of organisations, including the Pyrenees Club, that organise group walks.

'The house itself was so big that even with 3 families there was plenty of room for peace and quiet if you needed it. Real treats were the stack of pool towels and changing bed linen and house towels after a week. Lillian and Thierry were delightful, friendly and wonderfully helpful ambassadors for you and the area, with a fund of local knowledge. Maurbourget's position near the mountains/marciac jazz/rivers/pau/lourdes was perfect for touring about.'

Perfect for winding down & cycling

Bambou is an excellent place to stay when you want to relax. The house is huge and the garden and swimming pool mean you can spend most of your time lazing. The rooms are large with high ceilings and the house oozes rural character. Keen cooks will find the kitchen is well equipped. We also liked the secure shaded parking at the back of the house. We spent most of our time lazing in the garden, reading and swimming. It was hard to get the kids out of the pool.
Maubourguet is a quiet little town with all the essentials within 2-3 minutes walk from the house.
We didn't find many sites to visit (like chateaux/stately homes) nearby but Pau is worth a trip as are some of the smaller bastide towns. The countryside around is beautiful and perfect for keen cyclists (and the Pyrenees are pretty close too).
In summary - an excellent venue if you want to get away from it all with younger families.

We had a great time at Bambou, the house is huge and just what we wanted for a super authentic stay in a beautiful rural French town. The pool and garden are a treasure right in the middle of the town.

The town has great bars and restaurants so you don't need to drive to have a nice night out. We walked along the river and canals and just enjoyed being part of a great town
