Photos and Description of this Castanet holiday house
Very comfortable, 4 bedroomed, 3 bathroomed house. Sleeps 2- 9 plus babies.

Le Bourg is a characterful and charming stone-built family house (circa 1850), situated in the centre of Castanet with magnificent oak beams, exposed stonework, alarmed swimming pool and solar powered pool shower.

Castanet is an ancient and friendly hamlet, with many beautiful old stone houses and virtually no through traffic. Situated close to medieval towns such as Villefranche, Cordes sur Ciel and Najac, the house provides peace and tranquillity, and an excellent base for exploring the region. Inside, the house divides neatly into 2, giving families their own space, and is decorated in a comfortable mix of antique and modern. The attractive farmhouse-style kitchen is well equipped and includes a dishwasher and microwave. The basement has a new modern shower-room and a utility room with 'drinks fridge' and washing machine. Free Wi-Fi . Own laptop required.

Baby equipment: stairgates, 2 cots, 2 h/chairs, baths, monitor, steriliser, changing mats. Baby sitting services available.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Castanet, France

Getting here and away : Castanet is about a day's drive (10-11 hrs) from Calais or just 1.5 hours from Toulouse International airport where there are several flights per day from Gatwick, Luton and Heathrow. In addition, there are flights to Rodez and Carcassonne with Ryanair. On a wider perspective, the location is central to the Pyrénées, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, all of which make for an interesting day away.

History and wine : This area is renowned for its “bastide'' towns and villages. Of these, Najac and Cordes sur Ciel are perhaps the best known as they are wonderful examples of living medieval, hill-top fortifications and date from the 13th century. Cordes, for example, was founded by Raymond, Count of Toulouse during the violent years of the Cathar Wars and Albigensian Crusades. Today, the walls and houses of both Cordes sur Ciel and Najac stand in their entirety, having been painstakingly restored by the artisans and artists who now live and work there. Wine connoisseurs can investigate the local vineyards of Gaillac (starting 25 minutes to the south) and Cahors (1 hour to the north), Languedoc (2.5 hours to the south) or the relatively unknown Marcillac to the northeast near Rodez. The area is also home to many restaurateurs who can guide you on your choice of good wine.

Albi, a newly appointed UNESCO site is 50kms to the south.

Eating, drinking and entertainment : Monteils, (3kms) has a boulangerie, grocers and 3 good restaurants. The pretty bastide town of Villefranche de Rouergue (20 minutes) will meet all your shopping needs (hypermarkets, tabacs, newsagents, banks, post office, boulangerie/patisseries, boucherie, sports shops and several bars/restaurants). Villefranche is also host to a comprehensive programme of entertainment as well as a large, lively market on Thursdays.

The lovely towns of Najac and St Antonin Noble Val are only 20 minutes away and have very colourful markets on Sunday. There are several fêtes, spectacles, music festivals and general entertainments taking place in Cordes sur Ciel and the surrounding villages. Family entertainment is also available 40 minutes away at the Cap Découverte theme park including swimming pool, karting, dry-slope skiing and tobogganing, skating, rollerblading, cycling and a museum of the old mines and local history. Open-air swimming pools are available in Najac and Villefranche.

Golf:

There is a 9 hole golf course at Villefranche de Rouergue but golfing enthusiasts would be better to go to Albi where there is a superb top quality course. The non golfers among the party could happily spend several hours in Albi (a recent Unesco Heritage site) visiting the cathedral, Toulouse Lautrec museum, taking a river trip or simply shopping and lunching.

Other Activities:

Canoeing (organised or individual) - great fun!!!

French rural idlyll

Review Submitted: September 7, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
My wife and family enjoyed a very relaxing and comfortable stay at LeBourg for 2 weeks in August 2011. It is situated in Castanet which is everyone's idea of a quiet and pretty French rural village complete with many beautiful and rather ancient stone houses, a square for boules, regular ringing of the church bell to mark the time and frequent sounds of farm animals including cock crowing. The village is set in lush Bastide country and walks above the village are rewarded with stunning views of expansive countryside. LeBourg is a beautifully restored and refurbished combination of 2 adjacent buildings. It works very well and can easily accomodate up to 9 people. Being remote we were glad that there is a good internet connection to keep in touch with the outside world if you must. A car is essential to get provisions from the nearest village with shops at Monteills (3 Kms) or Villefranche et Rougeret (12 kms), which has a spectacular market on Thursdays and several super markets, as well as lots of other excellent shops and restaurants. We were grateful to Ian and Pauline for their clear instructions on how to get to LeBourg from Toulouse and their helpful book on various aspects of amenities at the house and tourist material about places of interest to visit. We enjoyed Cahors, Najac and Cord sur Ciel as well as Villefranche et Rougeret. It was a pleasure to stay in the very comfortable house which is immaculately maintained. We loved the pool and barbeque area in a beautifully shaded garden, where we spent most evenings.

For us it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and one of our best holidays. We have travelled in France on various occasions before and had hoped to experience the delights of rural France, but never quite managed it. This year thanks to our stay at LeBourg we found it. I can thoroughly recommend time out at LeBourg

Viva Le Bourg!

Review Submitted: September 28, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
A group of us have just come back from a fortnight in Le Bourg, and can't praise it enough! Pauline and Ian (owners) were extremely helpful and the house was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable for our needs. We even had added extras like broadband, dishwsher, DVD player which all came in useful. Castanet is a gorgeous, sleepy village where the bread van delivers twice a week and the butcher van delivers weekly. It is situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, with so many delightful bastille towns within easy driving distance to visit. Other days were spent lying by the pool and going for pleasant walks. If you want to lose the ratrace for a while, I can't recommend this place enough!

Le Bourg, Castenet, France

Review Submitted: October 8, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
My wife and I found the property very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The owners were very attentive to our needs. The bed was extremely comfortable, a rarity in rental properties we have so far experienced in France.
A stand-alone shower is something we would recommend for the future.
Cooking and dining facilities were first class.
As for location, the lack of basic shops and restaurants in the village was a shame as buying bread etc. and dining out required a drive.
The property is well situated for exploring the local towns and villages which teem with character. As for the markets, they are the best we have seen, particularly for food.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable two weeks in which the weather only let us down once!

Owner's Response: For 2012 we shall have a new modern 'wet-room' in the basement. This will include a large walk-in shower area, wash basin, shaver point and WC. There is also now a solar powered shower next to the pool.
