Further details for this holiday villa rental in Aveyron, France

About the Villa: The villa is built in traditional style using local features such as oak beams and a solid elm staircase. It is very light and airy with large shuttered windows and french doors to let in the warm summer air and provide ample opportunity to admire the lovely views of the surrounding forest hills. Furnishings are very comfortable and of a high standard. Downstairs floors are of traditional tile with several woven rugs to give a cosy atmosphere. The conservatory, which is fully furnished with wicker sofa, chairs and coffee table is a real bonus in winter or on cool summer nights. The glass doors can be fully opened to let in the air in summer. The villa's open plan layout is particularly suitable for those who enjoy preparing meals whilst conversing with friends or family. The kitchen is amply equipped and there are place settings for formal or informal dining.

About the Garden and Village: The Villa is in a very peaceful setting with a large (1acre) landscaped garden containing many mature trees including oak, fruit, walnut and juniper plus grassed areas that provide quite spots in the sun or shade. There is a stream at the bottom of the garden with a little bridge leading to the drive. There are no fences or hedges - just a lovely open view of the surrounding hills. The pool area is terraced with sunbeds and cold water shower and is secured by a lockable fence. It has an adjoining pergola covered by grape vines. The pool and garden is maintained by a local. The village has a meandering river, communal bread oven, ancient washing stone and lovely church. The village festival in August is a must. All our neighbours are french and are friendly and helpful. The traditional local bar/cafe (3km) is a must. It has a covered outside eating area by a lovely river which is ideal for fishing.

Out and About: The attractions in the region are highly recommended, although most visitors seem to enjoy days spent in the garden by the pool, especially when the weather gets hot in high summer.. Cycling is very popular and train travel is accessible. The nearest town with a station is the medieval bastide of Villefranche de Rouergue (8km) which has a good selection of bars, hotels, restaurants, tourist information, traditional shops, boutiques and wine merchants.. There are several large supermarkets on the outskirts - HyperU is only 10 mins drive away from the villa. Roads leading to the villa from Rodez via Villfranche de Rouergue are well maintained and pretty level so your journey will be much shorter than those harder to reach destinations within more hilly areas. The nearest shops and bars are in Monteils (3km) which is accessed via a level road on foot, car or bike. There is also a good pony trekking club in Monteils and a farmers table to sample traditional fois gras

Other Activities: Birdwatching, historic sights, kayaking , pony trekking, cycling and wine tasting. Lakes just half hour drive away

Secluded, private but space for everyone

Gustoph67 Scottish Borders
Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
PIcked this villa almost at random off the site and are so glad we chose it. Sounds a cliché but the photos really don't sum up the space and room this villa has.
We went with four adults and three children from 8 to 14, first big plus was directions you can follow and lead you to the door - always a bonus. Warm welcome by the rep on-site who was very knowledgeable. House large , spacious v clean but never felt like you couldn't relax in it and best of all there are spaces all over the very large site where everyone can "get away from it" - be it the hammock, round the side or the other end of the garden.
Pool large and v popular with all. Kitchen excellently kitted out, probably one of the best we have used on a holiday
Local area is spectacular, particularly enjoyed Najac, Canoeing at St Antonin and for a further drive Belcastel is beautiful.
Any down sides , If I'm being very picky there would be a small baker / shop in the village but then there's one just 2Km down the road in Monteils, the Hammock was on its last legs but is being replaced and the upstairs can get very hot - maybe benefit from a couple of fans for us unacclimatised Brits who find ourselves unexpectedly in 35 degrees and struggling with it.
Final plus - the deposit comes back within a few days and no quibbles - excellent service.
Owner's Response: Just to note that the garden hammock will definately be replaced, infact, owing to popularity, we will try and rig up a second one in its own private space.
Thanks for the suggestion about providing fans in the bedrooms. Will get on to it ready for next season.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write this review.

Tres Joli Maison et une Beau Jardin

FFFdevon Yelverton
Review Submitted: November 2, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
Just looked up the property to show our friends where we stayed this year.  We read the review from the German family and it did not seem to describe the same property we had such a lovely time in.  I suppose you cannot please everyone all of the time. We have stayed in many properties in France throughout the years and can say that this property was one of the best based on our criteria:  Not overlooked and garden very lovely, house spacious and very comfortable.  Also, very clean and well equipped.  Staff friendly and helpful but not 'in our face' and swimming pool big enough to have a 'real' swim in. Loads to see and do in the area.  All in all excellent value for money.    Thanks for a lovely stay. We will be back!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review.   We really appreciate your response.  It is reviews like yours that encourage us to continue to strive to improve our service.

Midi Pyrenees at its best - a lovely location

aldridge rotherham, South Yorkshire
Review Submitted: October 23, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
The villa and garden was really lovely. We brought our elderly parents with us. They are quite fit but the use of the downstairs bedroom and bathroom with its grab rails was a real bonus. Our flight was delayed and we arrived quite late. Nevertheless, the staff were there for us and were really helpful and friendly and made sure the villa was very clean, warm and lit up for our arrival. Small things mean a lot and the ample provision of kitchen equipment, pool towels, tea towels etc made a difference.

We planned to visit so many places in the region but stuck with the local attractions in the end. We loved Monteils, which is only 5 mins drive. Particularly rustic lunches at Bar Miquel which has a covered veranda. We thought that HyperU was the best supermarket in the area.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review.  May I ask readers to note that the downstairs bathroom is not adapted for the disabled.  If a member of your party has mobility problems please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to discuss you needs.

Aveyron for everyone!

Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Our only regret from our experience of two weeks in this super villa is that we did'nt book it for three. The tranquility only occasionally interrupted by the local cockeral talking to his pal across the beautiful valley we were positioned in. And when we had need of a little life, Villefranche with all the big town facilites just 10 mininutes away avec une grande biére by the Aveyron after shopping. Restaurants everywhere, and meeting the challenge of a waiter in Villefranche, who accused the English of being squeamish, I even had tête de veaux for lunch. Having satisfied English honour, you don't have to. Have something nice.
If you enjoy salads and crêpes, an organic restaurant at Le Garde Viaur by the river is worth a visit, even the jazz music is strangely suitable, live some nights.
Back to the house and star gaze from the conservatory.
The house is comfy and user friendly, the garden and pool extremely well kept, the pool cover, not found in many gites we have stayed in, kept a steady 28 deg all the time.
Would I recommend this villa? Absolutely. Does it suit tall people, obviously not. So for those of us less than 2mtrs tall the house is well presented, adequately equipped in beautiful suroundings with everything there for a lazy or active holiday.
Visit Cordes sur Ciel, Albi, Cap Decouvert near Albi for dry skiiing and a 100k/h zip line over the old open cast nine.

Great Holiday Escape

jean2706 Yorkshire
Review Submitted: October 19, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We are two couples with 3 children aged 7, 9 and 14. We had a lovely time at the villa and the children really enjoyed it. The residents in the village are really friendly and gather at the stream to have a chat. We loved the garden and pool and saw a hare and wild deer in it. It is a very safe environment and we were able to let the children go for walks etc in the locale. The villa lived up to its description. All in all - a lovely home in a beautiful location.
The Thursday market in Villefranche de Rouergue is a must, but get there early!
