Charming comfortable chalet in Bareges

The property is situated on the edge of the pretty village of Bareges, within easy access of the ski bus and a short walk to the village centre. The large sitting/dining room will seat 20 people comfortably, and has a traditional fireplace. There is a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. The house is fully centrally heated, with heated inside storage for skis, boots, etc. The ski area of Bareges/La mongie is the largets in the Pyrenees with skiing to suit all tastes and abilities. The restaurants in the village and on the slopes are excellent, good value and offer traditional local cuisine. The Tour de France passes right past the door on its way up to the Col du Tourmalet, the highest road pass on the route

Bareges is a traditional Pyrenean mountain village, with plenty to do both in the summer and the winter. There is a large thermal spa in the village, which was built by the Emperor Napoleon for his troops. The restaurants all serve locally produced food, with lamb from the Toy valley a speciality. The village is a very good base from which to explore the surrounding mountains, the GR10 runs through the village. The world Heritage site Cirque du Gavarnie is only 40km away.

Winter activities

There are several good ski rental shops in Bareges and two friendly ski schools, both with English speaking instructors. They both offer either group or private lessons. There are also dog sled rides and snow mobile hire up in the ski area, or if you wish, it is possible to hire a guide to take you off-piste

Summer activities

The village has a paragliding school, quad bike hire, and the largest privately owned botanical gardens in France. The walking is very extensive and suitable for all levels. The famous Pic du Midi observatory is easily reached by cable car from La Mongie over the spectacular Col Du Tourmalet. For those who like a challenge, it is a 10km uphill climb by bike to the Col du Tourmalet from Bareges village. The other cols which the Tour de France pass over are within an easy car ride.

Skiing Information:

Bareges is in the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees. The resort rises to 2,500m and offers a wide range of both groomed and off piste skiing. The resort has many fantastic restaurants all offering home cooked food at very reasonable prices

120km runs, 43 ski lifts, 170 snow cannons, 69 marked runs, 100km downhill skiing, 20 km cross-country skiing. 23 green runs, 19 blue runs, 21 red runs, 6 black runs. There is a brand new snow park, with big air, border cross, tables and modules. Very good mountain restaurants, no queues, friendly lift attendants
