Barèges is a traditional Pyrenean mountain village, with plenty to do both in the summer and the winter.
In the summer, Barèges is the perfect base from which to enjoy the varied walking the Pyrenees has to offer, including the famous GR10 route which spans the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and passes through the village. The Tour de France goes right past the chalet door, and you can watch the action from the terrace as the riders pass on their way to tackle the infamous Col du Tourmalet, 10 km further up the mountain.
For winter visitors the Domaine du Tourmalet ski area is very close by and there is easy access to Cauterets, Luz and Gavarnie ski areas.
There is a large thermal spa and an outdoor swimming pool which is open in the summer.
The restaurants all serve locally produced food, with lamb from the surrounding Toy valley a speciality.
Barèges is a short drive from Lourdes and Pau where there are both train and air links.
