LA GRANGE DE GUSTOU is a restored stone barn situated at 3000ft elevation on a South facing hill between forest and pastureland, enjoying a superb panoramic view toward the high Pyrenean peaks as well as the Garbet river valley and the village of Erce below. The interior of the house has been renovated for maximum comfort: a terrace and veranda have been added to the original building so as to be able to admire the view any time of day or season. Total peace is assured. Surrounding the house you can enjoy 40 acres of private land with forest and meadows. There are no neighbors or noise other than the sounds of cow bells and the falling water from a nearby torrent. The house is located in the 'Haut Couserans' Dominated by the majestic Mont Valier massif, Haut-Couserans has inherited the might of the mountain ranges and gentleness of the foothills. The sunlit meadows and cool forests of Haut-Couserans are home to a rich palette of wildlife and plants. Nestled in scenic valleys, the many quaint villages will charm you with their unique atmosphere and ancient stonework. The house is a one and a half hour drive from Toulouse passing through the cities of Saint Girons,Oust and Erce. Notes: A big veranda is connected to the living room. It is the best place in the house. In all seasons you will enjoy the view at both the highest peak and the Garbet valley in below. Outside the house you will like the natural spring water and the sound of the falling water in a nearby torrent. in a fresh and sunny location. Surrounding the house forest and meadows with horses and cows.

HISTORY:: The previous owner was nicknamed 'Gustou'. He was used to bring his cows up to the fertile pastures on terraced land nearby the barn for the summer. The barn was located on a rocky promontory as at that time hay or dung was carried by men and it was easier to bring hay up the slope and dung down the slope. Nowadays Merens horses have replaced the cows on the summer pastures, but the newly restored barn constructed of granite wood and slate has retained its original aspect.

SHOPPING AND RESTAURANTS: At Erce village(about 2 km from the house) you will find a cafe- restaurant and a small grocery store with all basic food. All kind of stores are available at Oust (8 kms) and big supermarkets at Saint Girons (20 Kms). Many restaurants are available in the surrounding villages.

An amazing week in a beautiful house and a fantastic part of France. This was my first visit to the south of France and the Pyrenees but will certainly not be my last. I am very impressed with the incredible scenery and the tranquility. We 've enjoyed some truly spectacular walks in the montains - cheating. I am tempted to try the skiing here one year. We all have had a truly wonderful time here. We stayed at Souleilo last year, thought that was excellent but this new gite is five star. As wrote last year we shall be back.

There were 7 of us who only stayed for 4 days. Bit of a shock riding motorbikes up the track lane in the dark, but man was that view worth seeing in the morning! Oh yes! The house is absolutely stunning and I called it a millionaires pad! Decor and furniture were fantastic! A beautiful place to chill out, the bbq area was great.You definately need a car and make sure you get plenty of provisions, the local people are very friendly and seem to like tourists.The house is well kept and has its own friendly lizards and donkeys.The only thing I thought was missing was a swimming pool! We would recommend the property. Well thought about when being built.Our stay was very relaxing for us before moving on and staying at another gite in the Pyrannees. Glad we all stayed! Cheers!!!

Very comfortable house with everything that you could possibly need for an enjoyable stay. There were only two of us, but it would be a great house to share with friends, especially with 3 bathrooms! The house is in a lovely peaceful spot but the best part had to be the visiting horses and donkeys!

Very nicely restored and beautifully decorated. Modern equipment inside.
Nice view.
We had a small problem with electricity when we arrived and the landlord arranged it very quickly.
The landlord is very friendly and does his best to help you.

We were all very happy with our stay (2 weeks).
