Officially known as Le Touquet Paris-Plage, the stylish resort of Le Touquet (a 30-minute drive from Calais), is a wonderful destination for a short break or longer holiday. A mecca for golfers with two superb championship golf courses, La Mer and La Foret, offering a contrasting style of courses - La Mer is regarded as one of the finest “links” courses in Europe and a stern test for all levels, particularly when the wind blows, whilst La Foret offers a beautiful parkland course that is slightly less challenging. A wealth of other activities are also on offer: tennis, horse-riding, both sand and water-based sailing and windsurfing, cycling (nearly all roads have a dedicated cycle track alongside them), Aqualud (an indoor waterslide park) and a wonderful sandy beach. Add to this a delightful historic marketplace selling wonderful fresh fish, an excellent array of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops and you have all the ingredients for an enjoyable holiday.

My partner and I went on a last minute weekend to Le Touquet in October and had a lovely break. We had a little difficulty finding the right number in the dark but had a lovely surprise once we had gone into the apartment. There is a large kitchen dining area with a balcony overlooking the gardens and on the upstairs mezzanine floor there are two bedrooms, one containing a double bed and the other two singles, with skylights and blinds. The kitchen/diner also has a sofa that opens up into a double bed if there are more than four people staying. The apartment was spotlessly clean and once we had put the heater on, lovely and cosy but spacious enough so that we didn't feel cramped. The kitchen had all the appliances we required and there was a decent sized fridge to keep the wine, cold meats, milk, fish and butter cool. Also if there is a group of people eating in, there is the added advantage of a large dishwasher.

The apartment is in an ideal situation not far from either the beach or the town. It is in a peaceful location, and although it is near a fairly busy road you can hardly hear any traffic and it is very quiet at night. So much so that we overslept both mornings!

We took a car with us so we could explore the area and there is a parking space there for the flat. At first we couldn’t see the lake but did a bit of looking around and found it behind the apartment. Very peaceful and serene, the odd bird squawking – a good place for a picnic in better weather. Apparently you can take a hike across the dunes to the beach, but we didn’t try this as the weather wasn’t great on our second day. We did drive to the beach on the front (only about 10 minutes drive) which was very wide and sandy – the tide was out a long way. The estuary at Le Canche is spectacular with the crescent of sandbank, the sea beyond and the yacht club behind you. The town itself is upmarket and very attractive with a lot of restaurants, brasseries and bars, and a huge market on Saturdays, selling food from nearby farms, clothes, shoes and handbags – definitely not to be missed for the local flavour.

We both agreed we would come back again in warmer weather to make the most of the beach, but enjoyed it thoroughly as a mid Autumn break.

We loved this holiday (Aug 08). The property was very handy for the town of Le Touquet - an easy walk for eats and drinks. A car (or cycle) is needed to reach the beach, but parking is generally free. The property is well equiped and obviously a family holiday home. The stairs are certainly unsuited to the very young or old but interesting nevertheless. We would certainly return to Le Touquet (bringing bikes next time - brilliant cycle paths) and to this property.

Beautiful surprise

Went closer to home than usual and found a peaceful haven. Well kept appartment in a tranquil environment close to the town and a 3 minutes away from the most stunning dunes we had ever seen which lead to spectacular beaches.Great walking, and local funfairs for our young children and freedom for them to play in a safe area around the appartment.Many wonderful and still reasonably priced retaurants in town.We will return.

A Fantastic holiday

We stayed here with our 3 year old son and had a wonderful holiday. The apartment was clean and tidy, with plenty of room. A nice balcony where we had our breakfasts and evening drinks listening to the birds singing and views over the communal garden. May Village was a peaceful and safe area with direct access over the sand dunes to miles and miles of amazing clean beach.

We took our push bikes and enjoyed using the very good cycle paths to the beach and town. Our son loved the swimming complex in town which had great water rides for all ages.

We would definitely stay here again.

Family break

We stayed here June 07 and were really dissapointed, this is not a child freindly property as the steps to the bedroom are lethal.

We could not let the children go down to the toilet in the middle of the night on their own, and they were 10 and 7, also it is very basic and all fixtures and fittings are ancient.

I also did not agree in paying the money for a clean as it was obvious it had not been done before we got there.

really only suitable for 2 people.
