Recently renovated early 1900s family home with extensive garden and side road access, the property consists in wood panelled hall, large, bright, fully equipped kitchen seating 6, dining room for 6, sitting/smoking room, double drawing room with TV, VHS & DVD players, WC, double bedroom with private bathroom and shower room, all on ground floor, original wood staircase to 1st floor with 3 double bedrooms, 1 single + 1 infant bed, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room. In addition, double garage, stabling for 3 horses and 3 dogs. The villa is situated on the outskirts of the pretty village of Groffliers which boasts restaurants, supermarket, a small boating port 1km away and beach at 2km. Ideally situated for the famous sand yachting at Berck (3km), golf courses around Le Touquet (20 mins) and the numerous attractions along the coast. Groffliers is a charming village just 4 km along the coast from the seaside resort Berck, famed for its healthy microclimate and sand yachting. Within a 30 min drive are the numerous golf courses along the Opal coast and inland, La Mer, Le Manoir, Le Foret, Nampont-Saint Martin. Nature lovers are spoilt for choice with horse trekking, walks, fishing and forests to be explored and with a secluded beach only 2km from the villa all tastes can be satisfied. Not forgetting the endless Brasserie and restaurants! There is also easy access to the splendid baroque towns of Arras, Lille and Amiens. Even Paris is merely a 1.5hr train journey.

Additional information about rental rates

  • These rates are not applicable on rentals for 2 weeks or more where we offer excellent discounts, especially on monthly rents. The Saturday to Saturday rental applies to monthly rents also so in effect it would be a 4 week period unless by special arrangement. A refundable deposit of €350 is required when you arrive at Villa Garbe for any damage or breakages. This is refunded when you leave if there is no serious damage. Energy charges are €80 per week from 1st Oct to 1st May and €45 from 1st May to 1st Oct. 30% deposit payable on booking with balance incl energy, cleaning and bedlinen if required 6 weeks before date of rental. You will find the property clean on arrival and cleaning charges of €70 will be added to your bill. Bedlinen is available at a charge of euro 10.00 per person per week. All payments relating to the rental - booking deposit and balance - must be made via bank transfer in euro. Bank details available on confirmation of booking

  • All bathrooms are newly installed and furnished and are well heated. A guest cloakroom is conveniently situated just outside the kitchen. There is a wash hand basin and mirror in the dressing area of the main bedroom suite.

  • Sleeps 10 incl infant. All beds are supplied with bed covers and blankets - bedlinen can be made available at a charge of euro 10.00 per person per week. Ground floor bedroom and private bathroom with both bath and shower, are suitable for the elderly or those with mobility difficulties, though there are 3 steps leading up to the villa from garden level. There is a single sofa bed in the main drawing room not counted in the sleeping capacity. Main bedroom at front has dressing room leading into bedroom. All bedrooms have ample wardrobes and floor space - extra infant cots would certainly fit easily though not supplied. The granary bedroom was exactly that, a granary, as the owner recalls it when he was a child living here during the war and retains its charming slanting roof and the original door used to load the grain - now closed for safety reasons! Most of the furniture is period thereby enhancing the charming retrò atmosphere. Plenty of wardrobe space in all the bedrooms.

Notes: All pets welcome! Smoking is only allowed in the small front sitting/smoking room - please keep doors closed while smoking! The fireplaces are no longer operational. The kitchen and diningroom (seating 6 each) are connected by double glass doors which can be opened thereby enabling larger groups to eat together - maximum 12 people. Please note this is NOT a modern house - all bathroom and kitchen facilities are new but the atmosphere is that of an old-style bourgeois country house. If you are looking for modern, hotel style rooms this is not for you!! A short gravel drive leads to the house and there is space for at least 4 cars by the coach house. Access is from a side road just off the main route.

This is the owner's father's childhood home and the surrounding land was farmed by his family for generations. It is now on the edge of the village and while there is easy access to all the facilities along the coast it is a peaceful setting with mature graceful trees and extensive garden for those who do not wish to challenge the waves or the forests or who prefer old world charm to the modern and streamlined! The local restaurant, mini-supermarket and bar are within 5 mins walking distance.

Autumn at Villa Garbe

We recently spent a week at Villa Garbe, 17th-24th October. Our family party included five adults, a toddler and a baby. We were warmly welcomed to the house by Mme Pocquet and were impressed by the traditional ambience of the property and its cleanliness. The essential facilities were very good, re-furbished kitchen and excellent bathrooms. We had mixed weather but were always warm and comfortable in the house.

The house is very well positioned giving easy access to a range of attractions.

As reported in other reviews the sitting areas would benefit from re-furbishment.

Our stay in the Villa and in the area was very enjoyable. The spacious Villa comfortably met the needs of our family group at that time of the year.

We have just returned from our family holiday at Villa Garbe. We enjoyed our stay and there certainly was plenty of room. The villa has a lovely large and spacious garden ideal for families, it also has a lovely sunny kitchen and dinning room, however to describe it as recently renovated and this may be true isnt quite fair in respect to the decor and we were disappointed in the lounge area and down stairs bedroom, both very dark and old folks home and not in all truth of a high enough standard. Ripped arm chairs are simply not good enough. It really would not take much to sort this problem out, a quick decorating job and some simple fitted chair covers would do the trick. The downstairs bedroom again is like an old folks home - it put me off looking at a portable toilet housed in a seat as I walked in the room - just like an old folks home. The bedrooms also could do with a lift - they were clean however there is only so far one can search the term old world charm - yes by all means have the quaint hand painted furniture but please inject some comfort because again old folks home comes to mind. In this age of the credit crunch we are all so much aware of value for money, the customer is now king thus by spending a modest sum of money this villa could be a simple stunner! Also I dont like sleeping with nylon bed covers again - too old folks and very dated! Please remember your customers dont sleep under nylon at home so why make them pay to sleep under yours? Not good enough. To sum up : Yes a nice roomy villa but please spend a bit of money throw out the old folks home as its dingy and dark not good and inject a little comfort and modest style for your paying guests and they would be delighted and maybe come back.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for this feedback - it's always so useful when visitors take the time and effort to note down their observations. It's a pity we haven't been able to reply directly to these visitors (unidentified name) as we always do request feedback after each stay. Regarding the particulars of this review, we should like to note that it is clearly written in the reply we give to enquiries that this is NOT a modern house. It is our old family house that has been renovated in the bathrooms, kitchen and heating but not turned into a hotel. We have even been complimented on the sensitivity of the renovation by a noted interior decorator who enjoyed the fact that it hasn't been made into a mock modern-old house and our prices reflect this. However, we shall gladly underline this more clearly on the webpage as it mustn't be clear enough so thanks for this. It's always so much more satisfying for visitors to find the type of house they appreciate when renting on the blind so to speak.

Nous sommes deux familles Brittaniques et nous avons fêté la nouvelle année 2009 ici.
Nous avons passé un tres bon sejour. La maison est spacieuse et bien équipée. Nous avons profité d'une chaleur confortable grâce au chauffage puissant. Elle est très fonctionelle et très propre avec decoration soignée et raffinée. Elle est bien située et permet de rayonner partout; elle n'est pas loin de la mer ni des commerces. Elle est une maison de caractère; de coins et recoins. Merci à Sandra pour son accueil aimable. Le temps faisait glacial mais bleu! Que demander de plus?
