Situated on the west coast of the Cotentin Peninsula, a former city of sea people and fishing town, now a popular resort destination. The name of Granville first appears during the « Hundred years war ». The town was fortified by Englishman Thomas Scales in the 15th century. The old town is still surrounded by the original ramparts. The walled city makes for a interesting visit with its granite houses and cobble stone streets. Chaussey is Granville’s island. The island in inhabited by a few fishermen. The island itself is all granite and from its quarries were carved the stones that built « Mont-Saint-Michel » and paved the streets of Paris and London. Granville has been a fashionable seaside resort since the beginning of the century.
