Small 18C Manor house in walled garden.

Approached by its own drive the manor or ‘gentlehommerie’ is a mellow old house dating back to the 1780s and is set in a large walled garden in beautiful surroundings. ‘Les Vignes’ is the principle house of the immediate area. The house has a lounge with a huge traditional open fireplace and wood burning stove offering all the comforts of home. There is a large dining room that will comfortably seat 12 leading to a kitchen with all the usual modern conveniences including dishwasher. There are three double bedrooms and one twin bedroom on the first floor with a large family shower room and ensuite bathroom. The kitchen has been fully fitted with a range cooker, fridge freezer and dishwasher. In addition there is a utility room with automatic washing machine. A full range of garden furniture including loungers and barbeque is supplied.

St. Pierre sur Dives is the nearest town of any size. It grew up around a rich Benedictine abbey that was founded in the eleventh century and still boasts a remarkable old abbey church. Centred around a medieval market hall there is a weekly market where fresh local produce can be purchased. Falaise is the birthplace of William the Conqueror The town is situated in the Ante valley and is dominated by his enormous fortress high above a ravine. The French national equestrian stud, situated at ‘Le Pin au Haras’ is a forty-minute drive from the house through delightful countryside. The fashionable coastal towns of Honfleur, Deauville & Trouville are all but a short drive away as are many of the smaller more intimate seaside villages. Equally the Normandy ‘D’ day landing beaches are within easy reach & Paris is but two hours away. This area is also the gateway to the Suiss Normand, an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are historic Chateaux, gardens to visit, & the Cider and Chee.

Notes to the rental rates

  • The property is available on a weekly basis from 4pm on the first Saturday to 10am the following Saturday. All public holidays are charged at the peak rate of £895.00 (£1095 for Xmas and New Year) Linen can be provided at an additional charge of £10.00 (€15.00) per person per week. Over the Christmas and New Year period 2008/2009 the house is available from Saturday 20th December to 27th December and from 27th December to 3rd January 2009.
  • Christmas and New Year are charged at the rate of £1095.00 per week.
  • We charge a refundable damage deposit of £150.00. We reserve the right to charge a £35.00 cleaning charge if the property is left in an unacceptable condition.

The house is approached by the tree lined private drive with shrubs and grass areas to the front and uninterrupted views over the surrounding countryside. The house and pressoir (Cider press) both back on to the large walled garden. There are barbeque facilities and garden furniture. We have 2 large outdoor tables with twelve hardwood chairs as well as recliners. The main house kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, range cooker, built in fridge/freezer and automatic washing machine. For entertainment is a flat screen television with DVD player and video. Also a CD/tape stereo system is available.

Local Interest

The area is famous for the Falaise Gap battles after 'D' day and many car tours are indicated by sign posts in the surrounding area. The 'D' day beaches are within easy reach as is Bayeaux and the world famous tapestry. William the Conqueror's Falaise castle and exhibition is nearby. Falaise is the birthplace of William the Conqueror and although extensively damaged during the Second World War retains a distinctly medieval air. The town is situated in the Ante valley and is dominated by an enormous fortress high above a ravine. The French national equestrian stud, situated at 'La Pins' is a forty minute drive from the house through delightful countryside. The fashionable coastal towns of Honfleur, Deauville and Trouville are all but a short drive away as are many of the smaller more intimate seaside villages. This area is also the gateway to the Suiss Normand, an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many chateaux and gardens in the area to visit, brochures in the house
