The 'D' day beaches are within easy reach as is Bayeaux and the world famous tapestry. William the Conqueror's Falaise castle and exhibition is nearby. Falaise is the birthplace of William the Conqueror and although extensively damaged during the Second World War retains a distinctly medieval air. August Idyll

The Peredo Club England
Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Les Vignes delivered everything it promised. The house is spacious, clean and well-equipped. The dining and living rooms are large, and comfortable. The dining table is enormous, but there is still plenty of space in the room. The kitchen has an excellent range cooker (gas) which was easy to use, but there is also a microwave for those less tempted by the produce at the fantastic Monday market at St Pierre-sur-Dives.

The bedrooms are large and comfortable, and outside, the walled garden was pretty and tranquil. At the front of the house is another lawn with marvellous views over the fields, ideal to watch the setting sun with a glass of Calvados.

The owners, Chris and Anne, are friendly, but discreet. They were most helpful.

Locally, the Parc de Moulin at Ammeville (a small farm) is good for local Calvados and cider tasting. The museum near Chambois explaining the battle of the Falaise gap is absolutely fascinating, and a great picnic spot. A visit to the main D-Day beaches makes a good day out.

As experienced "giters" we found this to be one of the best places we have hired and would not hesitate to recommend to others.

D Day visit

Bluejacket Oxted, Surrey, UK
Review Submitted: June 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We rented Les Vignes for the extended family's visit to the D Day commemorations. Les Vignes is a very beautiful and historic house with delightful long views from all the upstairs rooms and a pleasant walled garden. We all loved it.

The website description of the property is accurate although we felt that the house is even better than described. All was clean and tidy and the owners were very helpful.

The house is in a very quiet location and you do need to have a car when staying there. Not suitable for teenages who like to be near the nightlife.

The house is an ideal rental for a larger party with plenty of space so you are not on top of each other. The one and only downside we experienced was that with a party of 12 we had to be very organised with the morning bathroom sharing.

We would happily recommend Les Vignes to our friends.

Les Vignes Easter 2009

Android Halstead, Essex, England
Review Submitted: April 24, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We hired Les Vignes over Easter 2009 to celebrate a set of important anniversaries with the family and best friends. The property was just as described; spacious, well appointed, and scrupulously clean. The owners were present to greet us on our arrival, welcoming, helpful and, if need be, only a telephone call and a few minutes away.

We had a wonderful time. We found the surrounding area interesting with a mixture of attractions; the castle at Falaise, the chateau at Vendeuvre and the Montmormel museum on the site of the final big battle for Normandy as well as a number of opportunities for calvados, pommeau or cider degustation. We didn’t realise that Normandy contained some sizeable hills/mountains and the climb down (and back up!) to the gorge at Point Oetre is good exercise.

We would thoroughly recommend Les Vignes to anyone with a large family or going away with friends.
