August Idyll

Les Vignes delivered everything it promised. The house is spacious, clean and well-equipped. The dining and living rooms are large, and comfortable. The dining table is enormous, but there is still plenty of space in the room. The kitchen has an excellent range cooker (gas) which was easy to use, but there is also a microwave for those less tempted by the produce at the fantastic Monday market at St Pierre-sur-Dives.
The bedrooms are large and comfortable, and outside, the walled garden was pretty and tranquil. At the front of the house is another lawn with marvellous views over the fields, ideal to watch the setting sun with a glass of Calvados.
The owners, Chris and Anne, are friendly, but discreet. They were most helpful.
Locally, the Parc de Moulin at Ammeville (a small farm) is good for local Calvados and cider tasting. The museum near Chambois explaining the battle of the Falaise gap is absolutely fascinating, and a great picnic spot. A visit to the main D-Day beaches makes a good day out.
As experienced "giters" we found this to be one of the best places we have hired and would not hesitate to recommend to others.
