River cottage is set in a little hamlet on the banks of the river Orne, it is a perfect area for walking, mountain bikes, fishing, swimming, climbing, bungee jumping, kayaks, horse riding, hang gliding, or just relaxing. It is situated in a little village called le Mesnil Villement and is a short walking distance from the local shop and bar/restaurant, there is a garden with a built in BBQ and a splash pool, with large parasol to keep the sun from burning the kids,there is a large Canadian canoe and three normal canoes and one Avon inflatable all with oars and paddles. we have some life jackets but we don't have all sizes so if you have your own it is best to bring it. We have a number of mountain bikes free of charge for your use. We also have free of charge one kids double trailer with all the waterproof covers and seat belts that fits on to a mountain bike.

River Cottage is situated on the banks of the river Orne, in a tiny hamlet where everybody is friendly and its peaceful, the fish in the river is in abundance and you can see all the wildlife including hawks eagles and kingfishers and there is beaver like creatures called coypua. We are situated at the core of kayaking ,hillwalking, hang gliding, golf, cycling, horse riding ,fishing, bird watching, and if you are missing the shops we are in easy reach of all the main towns in a 30 minute radius. The area is on the cider route and there are lots of local bars and restaurants to tempt you in. We are a short drive from Clecy where you can spend a day on the river on just sitting in the bar watching the hang gliders jump off pain-de Sucre, or you can have an exhilarating walk to the magnificent view point overlooking the Orne. There is a number of nice lakes to take your friends fishing in the surrounding area, for history buffs you can check out the D Day beaches or all the war graves.

River Cottage: A perfect family base

This was the perfect house for two families - plenty of space, a garden (with barbecue) and four bathrooms. Another advantage was the availability of bikes, two kayaks, a canoe and a dinghy - all free of charge. It was extremely well-equipped, with TVs, radios and even an Xbox available. It was conveniently placed in a quiet, relaxing location near the river but within easy reach of various Normandy towns and villages for days out. The owner was very relaxed and friendly and only checked on us to see if everything was OK. We all had a great time and thoroughly recommend River Cottage.

very good location for active families. we stayed with friends (4 adults +4 Children) plenty of space. The cottage is well equipped. Jimmy the owner is in the village and assisted us to have a great week ,including the loan of his wifes bike. the canoes were a hit with all of us and enough life jackets etc. the river is shallow so no problem when you do capsize! a good central location for sight seeing St Michaels Mont, Bayeux etc. Village has shop but nice cycle to nearby larger village with good cake shop!
