Out and about - food:
Nearby St Vaast la Hougue and Barfleur are two of the delightful fishing ports within a fifteen minute drive - with good restaurants and of course excellent seafood of every kind to be had. Several fish shops and oyster producers. Lovely local markets, superb produce - this where the vegetables are grown and you can taste it! - local cider producers, cheese and other dairy products, local hams, meats and patés - and good supermarkets. We have bars and local village shops in Teurthéville and le Vast, as well as two prizewinning bakeries in village of le Vast, full of mouthwatering specialities, brioches, gâches, local breads, even Norman fougasse!
Out and about - what to see and do:
With winding streams and green lanes everywhere, lovely for exploring, rambling, or biking - the beaches are in all shapes and sizes, on 3 sides of us - some wild and windy, some tiny with pretty coves, some simply disappearing into the distance - and of course into the great Landing Beaches. Half an hour from Cherbourg, 1 hour from Caen, with ferries, good shops, hypermarkets, theatres, museums, galleries - The Bayeux tapestry, the 2nd highest lighthouse in Europe, magical castles and wild geese, concerts at Tatihou island, cinema festivals - we'll give you local maps and lots of information on what's where and when!
and if you want to paint, go birdwatching, fishing, or even just watch the pretty Normandy cows walking off to be milked in the village, then you are in the right place. Even the garden has tucked away little places for undisturbed reading - or find miles of empty beach, and just sit - and gaze - and read - and enjoy!
