Further details for this holiday house rental in Calvados, France

A wealth of activities a short walk from the house: Beautiful and historically rich, Honfleur is ideally positioned between the Seine estuary and the sea. A traditional fishing village, Honfleur has been home to many well-known painters, writers and musicians such as Eugene Boudin, Erik Satie and Charles Baudelaire. Take in its rich maritime heritage and architectural and natural beauty. Honfleur is one of only 161 towns in all of France to be awarded 'four flowers'. Many leisure activities are within a short walking distance of the house: swimming pool, tennis courts, Naturospace, beach, large public garden, museums, a long, romantic promenade starting from the harbour all the way to the beach, shopping, antiques and many excellent restaurants. The weekly Saturday market and the Biomarche on Wednesday are superb for purchasing fresh produce, cheese and meats. An important pilgrimage, the Chapel Notre Dame de Grâce is an exhilarating 10-minute walk up Mt. Joli; the path starts in front of the house with breathtaking views all the way.

An ideal base from which to explore Normandy: We think you'll find our home to be the ideal base from which to explore Normandy. It's only a 15-minute drive to the fashionable coastal resorts of Deauville and Trouville. About an hour drive through magnificent lush, rolling countryside is Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror where you can visit his castle. Drive along the coast toward Cherbourg stopping along the way in the charming and picturesque seaside towns of St. Vasst-la-Hogue and Barfleur, only two of the dozens of delightful seaside villages within an hour drive. One of the finest and loveliest zoos can be found in Jurques near Caen, only about an hour drive. The abbeys that William the Conquerer and his queen, Matilda, had built are also in Caen as is his castle built in 1060. A day trip to the D-Day beaches, which start at only an hour's drive away, is an educational and moving experience and definitely worthwhile.

Relax at the house: Its setting in the beautiful Côte de Grâce affords the most splendid views and is quiet and peaceful yet only a 5-minute walk into town. Tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished, fully equipped with every convenience, our cherished home will make for you a perfect home away from home.

Other Activities: adventure circuit in the woods, cinema, museums, art, Naturospace, a calvados distillery, local farms producing foie gras, cider and cheeses

Lovely House in Lovely Honfleur

The T Team Wakefield England
Review Submitted: October 7, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We were 3 couples who all loved the house and had a great time there. The house is large comfortable and airy with lots of light and great views. It has a very well equiped kitchen with a large dining table though it lacks a dishwasher - but not much hardship when there are 6 of you. The house is well furnished and newly decorated. Great position for Honfleur only 5 mins walk to the harbour which is beautiful and full of places to eat. We had no difficulty finding a space to park on the ramp though it is very very steep and narrow ! The rear garden is also very steep and would benefit from a patio area with furniture although there is a small seating area at the front of the house. However this does not detract from it being a briliant house and if we return to Honfleur it will definitely be to Mont Joli.

La Belle Maison

VJJD Ann Arbor, Michigan/USA
Review Submitted: September 28, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed at this beautiful home for two incredible weeks. It is just minutes by walking from the impossibly cute seaside village of Honfleur. The property is a lovely combination of 19th century charm and 21st century convenience. The owners provide an abundance of information on how best to enjoy the seemingly endless wonders of Honfleur and Normandy, recommending restaurants, day-trips, walkabouts and even where to do your laundry within walking distance. The house is impeccably clean and well-tended, and everything that we were led to understand about the property and the town from the owners' brochures and notes was accurate - and all of it was positive.

The home is a great starting point for exploring Normandy, with its memorable sights even as far away as Mont St. Michel easily accessible within a short day trip by car. Coming home at night to this incredibly comfortable home - whether we had gone for a long drive or simply to see Honfleur - was always a treat. We were fortunate to have family visiting the area with us each of the two weeks we were there, and the large home with its multiple, modern bathrooms, beautiful and highly functional kitchen, charming bedrooms and comfortable living area easily accomodated eight of us at a time.

Any of the restaurants lining the quay are great places to enjoy the beauty of Honfleur, but two restaurants in particular are worthy destinations for foodies: Vintage Cafe, which boasts eclectic, delicious offerings and live jazz music, and La Tortue, an intimate, charming restaurant with serious fare where our 11 year-old nevertheless had "the best hamburger ever".

The kids will love walking around the quay at night and using up their Euros on the wonderful channel-side merry-go-round, which our 15 year old and her brother and cousins seemed to have an insatiable interest in riding. And don't miss the Saturday market in town, about which we were tipped off by the owner.

Honfleur is truly special, and the experience of discovering it and much else in Normandy from this beautiful home made for a memorable vacation for all of us. You will find yourself planning to come back to this home after your first stay there is finished

Beautiful Home in Honfleur

DGF Sydney, Australia
Review Submitted: April 6, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My family and I spent a week in this house in mid March, 2009.

It was absolutely perfect for our base to see some of the beauty of the area. Four lovely double bedrooms and 4 bathrooms was such a treat. Josephine has done a terrific job in renovating and decorating this beautiful house. The UK satelite TV was also very popular at night.

The house has a well equipped kitchen, allowing us to breakfast and have most of our dinners at home after a big day out in the Normandy countryside.

We ventured to Mont St Michel, Rouen, Deauville and the D-Day Beaches (Omaha - American Cemetry and Arromanches where the artificial harbour still in part is, were of particular interest). We don't have a favourite outing, because we enjoyed everything so much.

Josephine was a joy to communicate with, always quick to respond to emails and very helpful with all our enquiries. She makes paying and accessing the house all very easy indeed.

Honfleur was so much lovelier than we had anticipated and there are so many wonderful restaurants and shops, art galleries etc. Even going into the local boulagerie (bread shop) was an experience.

The local grocery store, Champion, only 500m from "our" house was perfect for all our needs. Markets are held on Saturdays in Honfleur. Deauville which is only 15 mins from Honfleur has markets on a Friday.

Honfleur's gardens by the water front are fantastic and the butterfly enclosure (Naturospace) worth a visit.

Please note, the ramp is very steep and there is a spiral staircase in the house. My 80 year old father managed the ramp just fine, but we restricted our trips up and down the ramp for him to only once a day if possible. We were always able to get parking for both our cars on the ramp.

We were able to walk everywhere in Honfleur from the house. It is on the top of the hill (Mont Joli) so it's downhill along lovely, windy, narrow cobble streets to the township, but only a minute or two. Very close to everything and yet a very quiet, peaceful spot. We all slept very well every night. The heating is very effective and there is ample hot water.

All in all it was a most wonderful holiday stay in this great house. We have already recommended it to our friends.

Really great for a family or a group of friends staying in Honfleur.
So much nicer than staying in a hotel.

If you need a base to explore Normandy, Honfleur is the best choice and this lovely house is the place to sleep and relax.A fully equipped kitchen makes cooking a pleasure and the beds are very comfortable. The Rampe is a bit steep but at 80, I managed quite well several times a day. So many wonderful places to see and all an easy drive from Honfleur. The house is only minutes walking distance from the centre of town which is an exciting experience with its picturesque harbour and colourful shops. We were so pleased to have found this lovely home and will surely return to enjoy another super holiday.

We had an amazing time. The house was beautiful and well maintained. We felt very safe and found Hon Fleur to be great fun. The back garden is so peaceful, and the view like a painting. We had all the comforts of home and could cook all our meals or eat out. The shower was great!!! and lovely deep bath tubs. A nice place to come home to after a long day out and about. We will be back next summer.
