This large and modern town house is a two storey house, located very close to the town center and the parks of the marshes in the Cotentin region. Walking distance from the town centre where you will find the market on Mondays, the lovely port with all the pleasure boats, cafes, restaurants and specialist shops. Also the church that dominates the town has a great history to discover. Cobbled street and alley ways it is a delight to explore. The house is furnished in a very comfortable way. It is located in the heart of the D Day beaches (June 6th 1944), with a rich history : Utah Beach, Saint Lo, Bayeux, La Pointe du Hoc. The St Michel Mount is 1h 30 away.

Carentan the large pretty market town set in the heart of the 27,000 hectare Cotentin and Bessin Naturel Park is at the point where 7 rivers meet is the heart of the marshes. In the winter the marshes flood and in the summer lush grazing for the Normandy cows. With a lovely port, Roman architecture, rich history and set in the heart of the American Sector of WW2 Invasion Beaches the problem here is too much to do! Just 15 minutes from Utah Beach, Ste Mere Eglise, with Bayeux and the British sector just over half an hour away, to include Arromanches, Pegasus Bridge, Caen, by train from Paris a direct route just over 2 hours, but still glorious beaches for sunbathing and swimming.

In the heart of conservation area: Set in the heart of The Cotentin & Bessin Naturel Park - this is an area exceptional for bird watching and other activities with nature in mind, walking, riding, and exploring. A colony of harbour seals live just off Baie des Vaies and quite often 2 curious seals come up the 16 kms canal to the harbour in Carentan to see what is going on! The old railway lines have been converted into wonderful walks and cycle tracks then as well you have the French food to taste and all the cheeses etc. Market towns dot the area , lovely fishing ports and lots of museums to do with WW2.

Golf: For those golf lovers - you have Omaha Beach, the lynx course at Fontenay Sur Mer to mention but 2.

Paris & Giverny: Paris is a direct train ride from Carentan - Giverny - Monet's garden just over 2 hours away. But Mont St Michel is a must along with the Bayeux Tapestry, Caen where William the Conqueror is buried as well as Rennes and Rouen, Honfleur, Deauvilee etc all within reasonable striking distance.

Excellent location for WWII sightseeing

Our vacation was primarily a D-day/WWII/Band of Brothers sightseeing tour and the location of this house was absolutely perfect. All the airborne attractions we wanted to see were just minutes away by car, and some we could even walk to. Utah beach was very close, and even Omaha Beach and Bayeux was not far or hard to get to. Mont St Michel was just a little over an hour away also. The house itself was beautiful, clean and well kept. The 3rd floor was a bit warm, if the owner figures out the locks on the windows it would be as airy as the rest of the house. There are many antique furniture pieces we steered clear of, spending most of our time in the Kitchen/dining area. The antiques might not be a good idea for families with small children unless they are extremely well behaved and respectful of others property. The kitchen was modern and had every gadget you could possible want to use. Delphine, the owner, and her family were extremely pleasant and helpful, explaining everything in detail. I give her an A+ for her customer service. All the descriptions of the amenities in the advertisement are spot on accurate. The place was wonderful, the price reasonable and I would stay there again and recommend it to others. The upstairs bathroom was amazing, large and well lighted with a very deep water jet tub. After three 12-14 hour long days of sightseeing a nice hot bath was just what the doctor ordered!

There is a supermarket right across the street, so shopping was easy, and a bakery within a couple blocks. but beware-things close up early in Carentan including this store! Shop in the morning. Restaurants were a problem, as they closed very early, or didn't open at all (was it off season there? our stay was the end of June). The only other slight disappointment was the lack of WiFi at the house. There are 3 floors with narrow, steep steps, so the elderly or those with disabilities would have a problem, but otherwise the house is perfect for adults, teens and children.

All in all I would describe this property as excellent and my party and I loved it and would highly recommend it, especially for WWII history buffs interested in seeing all things connected to the war, as it was the ultimate perfect location.

Much more than expected

The property was perfectly located, both in terms of Carentan's village centre and the attractions of Normandy. We were pleasantly surprised by the facilities and the quality of the accommodation, above our expectations. The owner was very helpful and friendly and took pains to explain everything. Delightful attic rooms for children. Steep stairs to upper floors might be a deterrent for the elderly.

I would have rated it excellent if internet was available.
