Photos and Description of this Orne holiday house 10 bedrooms 4 bath/shower, Sleeps 21 plus 2 cots 10 bedrooms

A stone built manor house set in acres of garden and forest, nestling between the wooded slopes of Mont Cerisy and the sheer slate cliff of Pierres Rock. The gardens are vast with grassland for play and 500 meters of riverbank to fish. The house is isolated on a narrow lane below Mont Cerisy, a local beauty spot, yet is only a few minutes away from the villages of Cerisy Belle Etoile and Montsecret with the expected Boulangerie and bars. Les Vaux is set in thousands of acres of countryside that makes up the five departments of Normandy. They contain a richness and diversity perhaps unrivalled in France. From the rolling hills of Suisse Normandy, pine forests, mountains, lakes, historic towns and villages, to flat safe well managed sandy beaches in the north. Surround yourself with the peace and tranquillity of the river and forest.

We have nothing but praise for our hosts David and Sheila, when we eventually found their house which was originally a little tricky they were the perfect hosts, in the spacious kitchen waiting for us was fresh bagets with a fine selection of cheese and two bottles of wine red and white.
The house was clean with every mod convenience and very comfortable to stay in.
No complaints and will certainly consider returning and recommending it to our family and all our friends.

A Wonderful Holiday

Review Submitted: August 29, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We have just returned from a week at "The Valleys" and I can honestly say that it was the most outstanding experience. The house is prefectly suited to family groups (ours numbered 18, ranging in age from 1 to 72). The swimming pool was perfect for the kids and the river, while cold, was great for a dreamy float down on a hot afternoon. The kitchen was big, well equipped and inviting so that everyone came in to help at meal times and contribute their best dishes for those long, copious meals. There was plenty of space for us to sit together and eat either inside or out. The lounge area was comfortably furnished for sitting and chatting and there were tons of DV Ds. We usually had two evening sittings, one for children and then for adults. There's a library for browsing and a computer corner which one grandson took over to find music and play his guitar right next to poor David and Sheila's door! The only comments we heard from them were encouraging remarks to the young musician. The vast lawns were perfect for games of badminton and touch rugby, and they even provided bikes for us which were great for exploring the valley roads. There were toys for the kids. One day in the evening we noticed that two of the boys had been so engrossed in their games all day that they were still in their pyjamas! That gives you some idea of how relaxed we were. All in all, it was hard to entice people away from the house but when we managed, a trip to the Normandy landing beaches was a good experience for all. We also hiked up Mt. Cerisy and enjoyed the mini golf and tennis at the top. One day we went to an amazing adventure playground at Roche d'Outre - a very exciting experience! David and Sheila were the perfect hosts. Attentive, helpful and yet unobtrusive. They always had a smile and a good word and great advice. Whenever we got back to the house, everyone would say "Isn't it great to be home!" and that is just how we felt.

David and Sheila were helpful with the various methods of travel to use to get from UK to their home. We were after a relaxing break and got just that! A nice warm welcome, candles lit, fire roaring, chilled wine and cheese and fresh (still warm) bread. The house is huge, yet cozy, and although it's old, it did not feel like you were living in a museum. All the mod cons like; internet, loads of DVD's and books to cater for all ages. Large area indoors on the landing for the children to sit and draw/play, the cupboards are full of games and puzzles. There are extra pillows and duvets if you need them. There is a folder full of info on places to visit. You need a car to appreciate the area in full, but if you just want a ramble in the ample grounds, or a wander up the hill to the Mont de Cerisy (beautiful place for the family for the day- picnic etc) that is perfect. We had glorious sunshine in Oct 08, and I really want to return in the summer with my whole family, to experience the pool, and staying outdoors all day playing in the garden, and enjoying an evening BBQ and watch the sun set with a big glass of local red wine. David and Sheila are very discreet and you would not know they are there. They live next door and they have a complete understanding of what people want in a home from home kind of way, and appreciate that you do not want to be disturbed on your holiday. The house is very clean and tidy, and the showers are great/water is hot, heating is controlled by digital wall unit to your desire, and logs for the fire are ample. There are hypermarkets a short drive away for food and petrol etc. We visted the American War Cemetary on Omaha Beach, and Mont St Michel. The Sat Nav was brilliant in the car, although it lost signal in a few dips (map is a good idea for back up). I feel very rested and relaxed for our short stay, and miss the place already. It's a perfect retreat for peace and quiet, and if you want more from your stay it's all there !

Excellent large house

Review Submitted: September 8, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We have stayed in this beautiful house twice May 06 and Aug 08.......That tells you how good it is!!! The house is beautiful, very clean and comfortable. Our ages ranged between 1 yr and 75!!! and everyone enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. The kitchen has everything you could wish for and we all enjoyed taking turns to cook in the evenings,Both the indoor and outside eating areas provided ample seating to sit together. The bedrooms were all large and airy...very comfortable beds and plenty of bathrooms so no arguments!!! This house has so much room to relax, even a little "snug" for those wanting to chill on the computer or get away from the hustle and bustle!!!!
The garden is amazing with plenty of room for cricket, boules, rounders etc. The pool was small and very cold!!! but we all went in and had fun making a whirlpool! The kids loved it! We collected our bread from the bakery, about a 2 min drive away, There were plenty of places to visit nearby and we could recommend canoeing in Clecy or walking to Cerisy where there is a playground for the kids, tennis and if the tower is open, breathtaking 360 degree views over the area. The town of Fleurs nearby, with shops and restaurants was also worth a visit. The D Day beaches are a good day out, the list goes on!!!!!
Sheila and Dave are the perfect hosts, on hand with advice and are very welcoming. Although they are next door you really don't know they are there and they have told us many times not to worry about the noise...we certainly didn't!!!!! A great welcome pack was provided on arrival, tea, coffee, wine, bread, cheeses etc etc...All in all this place is hard to beat
