Rochefort, located on the banks of the River Charente, is a hugely popular health and spa resort. Villas in Rochefort and cottages on Rochefort’s outskirts have been popular since the 1960’s for those looking for a little pampering. The long naval history of Rochefort can be seen in the old military arsenal and the 18th century frigate which stands in the port. The Old School of Naval Medicine is an absolutely magnificent place to visit, although it could make some visitors pretty queasy! There are some mouth watering delights to be found here too, especially the ice cream.

Royan, having been largely flattened during the Allied bombing raids of WW II is slightly short of historical attractions, but what it lacks in heritage, it easily makes up for in beaches. There are an amazing variety of beaches available from Royan accommodation, from the endlessly long sandy beaches of the south to the secluded coves and bays to the north.
