Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Annecy, France

Annecy and around Lac d'Annecy: The city of Annecy, for shopping, restaurants, history and theatre, is 25 minutes drive to the north, along the west side of the lake. It’s possible to cycle between Doussard and Annecy on a dedicated cycle route along the lake. As well as all the water sports around the lake, you can experience hang-gliding over the lake with an instructor from Col de la Forclaz, a 5 km winding climb above Talloires. The location is ideal for golfers, being situated half way between the spectacular courses at Golf du lac d'Annecy at Echarvines on the east side of the lake (tel +33 4 50 60 12 89), and the 9 and 18-hole courses at Golf de Giez (www.golfdegiez.com) with views of Mont Blanc and Lac d'Annecy. Either venue is only about ten minutes drive from Résidence les Gentianes. Similarly for horse-riding, one centre is 5 minutes drive and 3 more within 20 minutes. In winter ski-ers can choose between La Clusaz, Les Saisies or Megève, and even Courchevel is within about an hour by car

A bit further afield ...: The charming market town of Thônes is 30 minutes to the east, via Talloires and Bluffy, with excellent value restaurants and bars around its town square, along with speciality shops. The winter sports resort of La Clusaz is only 10-15 minutes further on, with spectacular views and one of its cable cars leading to a summer luge. Chamonix is around an hour’s drive by motorway from Annecy, leading to the Mont Blanc Tunnel into Italy, so you can stay in Doussard, have lunch in Italy and be home in time for dinner. L’Aigue du Midi is a spectacular platform including a shop and restaurant near the summit of Mont Blanc, accessible from Chamonix by cable car. It’s the highest point in Europe that is accessible without having to be a climber! The Winter Olympic centre at Albertville is less than 30 minutes to the south west of Doussard. Other leading ski resorts at Les Saisies and Megève are also around 45 minutes drive from the apartment, in the direction of Albertville.

Getting there ...: Click on the link below this section to our own site for links to useful air and ferry sites, and for car rental. Flights to Geneva include EasyJet all year from Luton, Gatwick, Liverpool, East Midlands, Newcastle, Bristol and Belfast (and in winter from Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Doncaster/Sheffield and Bournemouth); British Airways direct from Gatwick and Heathrow; KLM from Heathrow and regional British airports via Amsterdam (often cheaper than BA); Flybe (winter from Southampton, Norwich, Exeter and Birmingham); Bmibaby (winter, B/ham, Manchester, Cardiff, East Midlands); Jet2 (winter, Manchester and Leeds/Bradford); Superfast ferries from Rosyth to Zeebrugge; and Franceferry and DirectFerries (for P&O and Seafrance from the south coast to Calais and other ports) and from Hull or Harwich via Belgium and the Netherlands. See Holidayautos (Switzerland – Geneva Airport) for competitive car rental (cars by Hertz, Alamo etc).

Other Activities: Skiing at several leading resorts possible 30-60 minutes drive time (approx). The Tour de France passed through Doussard in 2009 and nearby in 2004.

Another Great Holiday!

Review Submitted: March 3, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
This is our 4th visit to this apartment which is well located in Doussard with lots of amenities incl shops, banks, post office. The accommodation is superb, very clean and modern, with fantastic underfloor heating. The area is beautiful in all seasons and Annecy is only 30 mins away and Geneva an hour - ideal for non skiers!!
The owner is very attentive and responds quickly to questions and enquiries. Highly recommended.
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind comments! I don't usually post them on our site. Instead I enclose, along with my response to enquiries, a summary of the many favourable comments that we have received by letter when visitors have returned the keys. They include comments from skiers during the winter as well as from visitors during the summer months. This time I have made an exception as you refer to Annecy being an ideal location in the winter months even for non-skiers!

Stay at Residence les Gentianes

losborja Knoxville,TN / USA
Review Submitted: October 6, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Our time in Doussard was great. The appartment is in a great location, just across the street from a market, very close to bakery, and half a mile from the biking path that takes to annecy.

The area is beautiful and highly recommended.

The Borja's
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. Many visitors have commented when returning the keys that the really useful facilities nearby is something they have appreciated, including the supermarket, the boulangerie, the bank, the bar and El Kemao Brasserie (with its wi-fi internet access). During July and August the traditional summer market on Monday mornings has fresh meat, fruit & veg, and cheeses as well as pottery and textiles. The biking path you mentioned is known as the Piste Cyclable, a converted railway line that runs from Annecy, along the lake past Doussard and on to the Savoie border. Many visitors have made use of our bicycles, taking advantage of the Piste Cyclable being close by to see the lake and mountains opposite from a higher vantage point than the lakeside road (but not too high!) Did you know the Tour de France ran past Doussard this year? It was during a time trial around the lake - but on the road and not on the Piste Cyclable!

Residence Les Gentianes

Review Submitted: July 28, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The appartment is very well situated for supermarket, activities around the lake and not far from the airport. The owner has made sure that there are comprehensive notes on everything in the appartment and it is pretty much home from home. There were cd's,dvd's, books and games for use which was really good.

The upstairs bedrooms did get very hot but there are fans in all the rooms. The lounge furniture isn't particularly comfortable and we had to use one of the deckchairs as extra seating as it 's not really adequate for 4 adults.

Doussard is a very quiet town which was fine for us but there isn;t really anything to do in the evening. It is perfectly situated for all the activities we wanted to do in Annecy. There is a market literally outside the appartment on Mondays which is very good.
Owner's Response: Our reviewer wrote to us separately: "Had a great holiday. We've been canyoning, whitewater rafting, hydrospeeding and parapenting, I now need a holiday".

Another positive review, then, and it's good to hear that our visitors appreciate our CDs, as well as the DVDs we provide so that you are not restricted to the English-language television channels we receive by satellite. Also, the "home from home" sentiment is one we have heard before, similar to another comment that's included in the summary sent with our response to any new enquiries.

The suggestion about our chairs is surprising though, as our photograph shows extremely comfortable armchairs and the sofa-bed that also pulls out easily into a full-size double bed; and there are more armchairs that can be moved from the bedrooms. We have stayed in winter when there were eight of us, and having somewhere to sit comfortably wasn't a problem for us. We have had bookings from April through to October every year since the place was built in 2003, and in the winter months, but I've never before heard of one of our deckchairs being used except for sunbathing on the balcony, The suggestion that it's necessary for conventional seating surely gives a misleading impression.

Doussard is a quiet village (not town - it has only 2,600 residents) - but there are things to do in the evening, if you like a quiet walk, or a drink in the bar or dinner in the brasserie or in summer in the local hotel restaurant. There's even a nightclub just 2-3 minutes away, on the road to Faverges. During the longer summer evenings, there's cycling around the village or on the piste cyclable that's only 5 minutes from us by bicycle. We have bikes in our garage that we have taken onto the piste cyclable to view the sunset reflecting on the lake - really spectacular.
