Les Capucines is a restored 17th century farmhouse which comprises three properties - Le Grenier, L'Ecurie and Le Marronnier. They are set in a tranquil, but not isolated, position on the edge of a hamlet of just 13 houses. The hamlet is surrounded by rolling countryside and is just 20 minutes from the nearest sandy beach. There is a large sheltered swimming pool and well laid out gardens of about 1 acre. Table tennis, swings and slide, sandpit, table football and bicycles are all available for use by clients. Sun beds and parasols are provided around the pool area and each gite has its own barbecue and table and chairs for outdoor eating.

Le Grenier is a one bedroom apartment facing south over the rear garden and open countryside. It is accessed by a flight of stone stairs to the side of the property. Le Grenier has a cosy lounge area with large window overlooking the gardens. It has a kitchen/dining area which is compact but well-equipped. It has a double bedroom, tall chest of drawers, two bedside cabinets and hanging wardrobe area. Off the bedroom is a light and airy shower room. Le Grenier has it's own barbeque, table and four chairs in the garden outside the apartment.

Les Capucines is located in the hamlet of La Pilette, which is less than a mile from the village of Lussant. This village has a baker, butcher, general store and small post office, together with two cafes and a restaurant. Les Capucines is just 8 miles east of Rochefort-Sur-Mer. This is a historic naval town with many places of interest to visit including the Corderie Royal and the rebuilding of the naval ship the 'Hermione'. The property is ideal as a base to visit either the coast for a variety of beach/water activities, or to visit the regions many attractions - La Rochelle (for the pretty harbour and famous Aquarium), Cognac (to visit the distilleries and sample the produce), Royan (for the Zoo and the wide sandy beaches).

Les Capucines - La Pillette - August 2008

Absolutely perfect! No need or want overlooked, owners welcoming, friendly and helpful, gorgeous location. Swimming pool to a very high spec and luxurious sunloungers provided. The beaches of the Cote Sauvage just 30-40 minutes await and La Rochelle 20 minutes. There are no restaurants within walking distance but a lovely place by the river about 5-10 minutes drive. Other than that it's Rochefort (15-20 minutes). We intended to eat out most evenings but found it far more pleasant and relaxing to cook 'at home' and eat overlooking the beautiful garden. There is a large supermarket 10 minutes drive away. We strongly recommend this property.

A lovely chilled holiday in a lovely place

We arrived to lovely sunshine and a warm welcome from Karen and Paul. Our accommodation was very clean, and tidy and had all the amenities for us to self cater for the 10 days if we wished. Weather last year 2007 was mixed however everything we experienced made for a really chill holiday.
We made full use of the barbeque facilities on site. The local shops of a couple of miles away had everything we needed to make wonderful meals and cheaply! .There were plenty of local eating places that were recommended however with the price of wine in the supermarkets we made the most of cheap but very palatable wines as we love to cook ourselves. The local markets had fantastic produce far superior than at home another reason to make the most of the Barbie!! Karen and Paul were wonderful hosts advising of local activities if we wished to persue.
The new pool area on the days when the weather was good was a real suntrap peaceful and clean.
Local towns we visited had loads to view of historic interest and shops to die for. We loved our holiday so much we have booked for this year 2008.Roll on August!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

We have stayed twice now in Le Grenier and it is perfect for a couple, the accomodation is nicely furnished with lovely 'home' touches, it's also comfortable and well maintained. Les Capucines is well situated for both the beach (Fouras) and the town Rochefort and La Rochelle. The indoor market at La Rochelle is particulary good for foodies! Karen and Paul can suggest a number of good restaurants nearby if you want to have a break from cooking.
Recommended for:  Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
