Les Capucines is a restored 17th century farmhouse which comprises three properties - Le Grenier, L'Ecurie and Le Marronnier. They are set in a tranquil, but not isolated, position on the edge of a hamlet of just 13 houses. The hamlet is surrounded by rolling countryside and is just 20 minutes from the nearest sandy beach. There is a large sheltered swimming pool and well laid out gardens of about 1 acre. Table tennis, swings and slide, sandpit, table football and bicycles are all available for use by clients. Sun beds and parasols are provided around the pool area and each gite has its own barbecue and table and chairs for outdoor eating.

Le Marronnier is the largest of the three properties. It is south facing, and overlooks the rear garden and open countryside. Downstairs it has a large, fully equipped farmhouse kitchen with table and benches seating up to eight people. There is a separate, comfortable lounge next to the kitchen. To complete the downstairs, there is a bright twin bedded room with large wardrobe, shelves and drawers providing ample storage space. Adjacent to the bedroom is a bathroom with compact bath and shower attachment. Upstairs in Le Marronnier are two bedrooms - one spacious double bedroom, again with plenty of storage space, and the second twin bedroom with two tall sets of drawers. There is a shower room on the first floor to serve both of these bedrooms.

Les Capucines is located in the hamlet of La Pilette, which is less than a mile from the village of Lussant. This village has a baker, butcher, general store and small post office, together with two cafes and a restaurant. Les Capucines is just 8 miles east of Rochefort-Sur-Mer. This is a historic naval town with many places of interest to visit including the Corderie Royal and the rebuilding of the naval ship the 'Hermione'. The property is ideal as a base to visit either the coast for a variety of beach/water activities, or to visit the regions many attractions - La Rochelle (for the pretty harbour and famous Aquarium), Cognac (to visit the distilleries and sample the produce), Royan (for the Zoo and the wide sandy beaches).

  • A security deposit of £150, in the form of a cheque, is required with the final balance (and dated for the first day of the holiday). This will be returned at the end of the holiday, subject to any deductions for damages/breakages as agreed with the client.
  • There are no extras - our rates are fully inclusive of all bed linen; towels (hand, bath, beach and tea towels); electricity, and full use of our wide range of equipment and facilities.
  • A deposit of 25% is required at the time of booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before the arrival date.

Fantastic gite - a real find!

We have spent 2 wonderful holidays at Les Capucines - our first week was in L'Ecurie which was fantastic for the 4 of us. In 2008 we 'upgraded' to Le Maronnier and invited the grandparents along! We have 2 kids, now 7 and 5 and they absolutely love it. The grounds are just great to run around in, play games on, hunt for bugs and butterflies in! The pool is wonderful and had a great re-fit before last season. There is a swing and slide area and games area with table tennis table and dart board. Bikes are available to borrow - and there is normally one to fit most sizes! Karen and Paul are wonderful hosts - really welcoming, offering a daily bakery delivery in the morning and being on hand for any queries or questions. The area is brilliant to explore - lovely beaches and interesting towns nearby - loads to see, but a lovely Gite to spend the day relaxing in if you'd prefer. Le Maronnier is wonderful in side - huge kitchen with the biggest table I've seen in - and 3 good size bedrooms (1 down, 2 up) . Downstairs and upstairs bathrooms - the downstairs one only has a bath which is quite small but fine for kids! The kitchen has all the accessories you can think of and more.Can't wait to go back in the future! Janette, Dave, James and Rachel

We have been to Les Capucines a couple of times. Karen & Paul are very welcoming and have set up Les Capucines to cater for everyone. The grounds are big enough for everyone to find a corner in the sun, and the swimming pool is well maintained. The gites are clean, fresh and comfortable; and beautifully furnished with all the trimmings. The area is off the beaten track but close enough to the coast to enjoy the amenities that the area has to offer. There is plenty in the area, and the weather has been good on each occasion. You can barbecue if the fancy takes you; cook in the well furnished kitchen, or eat out at a variety of restaurants depending on what you want to do. Karen & Paul are only too happy to point you in the right direction and make a recommendation. We would recommend this to families or couples.
