There are some wonderfully secluded little spots around the Basilica, which you certainly won’t expect as you walk up the tourist packed cobbled streets on the way up towards it.

There has always been a rich artistic heritage in Montmartre. Artists like Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh all spent time enjoying the bohemian lifestyle of Montmartre, and there are still a huge number of artists in the streets around the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur. You can get a portrait done with ease, and art lovers will undoubtedly be attracted by the Espace Dali, the largest permanent Dali exhibition outside of Barcelona.

The Montmartre Moulin Rouge cabaret, brought to infamy by the 2001 film, is a magnificent place to spend an evening away from your Montmartre apartment. You can have a terribly chic evening meal, whilst girls perform the French cancan adorned in feather boas, glistening rubies and flashing sequins.
