Gites on a former farmstead in the heart of the Loire
La Roultiere is a fabulously tranquil spot in the heart of the Loire Valley. Its gites offer the perfect flexibility to holiday as a couple, as a family, with friends or as a group with a special interest. With its acres of fields, and long ranging views, you'll be struck by the quietness. Organically run, the wildlife and bird life here is fantastic; rare butterflies and migrating birds have been recorded! The perfect place to relax, read, paint, or sunbath by the lovely pool. Children are welcome and the space gives them the freedom and safety to play with gusto! During the school holidays there are always other children around create adventures or play in the large sandpit's. (Which means you parents are off the hook when it comes to entertainment) Meals can be prepared by request and table d'hotes meals, and social evenings are frequently organised by the hosts Gill and Phil. Bikes are available to hire to explore the perfect cycling countryside, and pretty villages and vineyards.

L'Ecurie is a bright and sunny family gite with two bedroooms and one bathroom spread over three floors with glorious views of the countryside. It has a south facing covered terrace with barbeque and garden furniture surrounded by fragrant lavander. Its ground floor is one large room with kitchen, dining area and sofas. With its large double french windows overlooking the boules pitch it is a lovely space to relax.

Equidistance between Tours, Angers and Le Mans, La Roultiere is ideally placed for visiting the chateaux of the Loire and the Loir, and experiencing the motor-history and events of Le Mans. One kilometre away is the pretty chateau village of Breil, with its full time gardener the flower displays are lovely. Breil has a wonderful boulangerie, perfect for your morning croissants and daily baguettes (but do try the pain au raisan also). But get there early, Nellie's pastries are famous! The small market town of Noyant is a 5 minute drive, and it has a good supermarket, all the banks and cash machines, and pharmacies also. The vineyards of Bourguiel are a 20minute car journey, or take a bike and meander through the vineyards and visit the towns fantastic Tuesday farmers market. The historic town of Saumur is a 25 minute drive and there you can visit the famous 'Cadre Noir', the caverlry school of France. This gentile town has a bustling Saturday market, boutiques and good restaurants.

We will consider pets outside the main peak season, unless by special arrangement. Please telephone us if you require to bring your pet....we have to take in the suitability of the season for pets, other guests considerations are taken into account, and also your personal requirements (eg guide dogs)

Children under the age of 16 must be supervised in the pool area for the safety of all the guests staying at La Roultiere.

The description of the property and its location are accurate. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and there are some good walks nearby either a quick car journey or straight from the gite itself.
The property was clean and well maintained and the beds were very comfy. The pool was fantastic although a little cold at the end of May. But the children went in anyway!
There was no TV, so for those cold and rainy nights take plenty of reading material. There is a large area to gather and have barbeques and drinks with the other guests in warmer weather and Gill and Phil's children more than kept our two girls occupied of an evening.
Gill and Phil were friendly and approachable and had some good ideas on where to go and what to see in the area.
Saumur was the largest town that we went to and if you like shopping I would definetly recommend it. The menu's in the restuarants and cafes were also in English which was a great help for us and our pidgeon French. We visited Le Cadre Noir de Saumur which we all loved. If you pick the correct days to go on you get to see the horses in action. Unfortunately we missed this but did the tour of the stables which was great.
Chateau's abound, but we went the the one at Usse which was supposedly the inspiration for the story of Sleeping Beauty. This was a great one for the kids as it held some interest for them as well as us.
There is a great market at Langeais which is a fantastic town to have a look around and a bite to eat.
There are plenty of things to go and see in the day all within an hour or so drive (as we always took the scenic route you may be able to do it quicker).
Overall a great week and a very relaxing holiday, the journey from Caen was not too far and the gite was easy to find.
We will certainly go back in the future.
