Les Deux Châtaigniers is situated in the small rural hamlet of Rançannes in the Charente Maritime and can be reached easily from the A10 motorway junction 36. Halfway between Pons and Gemozac, it is ideally located for access to the many attractions of the South West region of France. The many Atlantic beaches are approximately 30 minutes drive from the gîtes. Nearby highlights, apart from the wonderful coastline, include Cognac, Saintes, Royan, La Rochelle, the zoo at La Palmyre and Bordeaux. The nearest towns are Gemozac which has a regular Friday market and Pons which has a twice weekly market. Both towns also have good supermarkets and general shopping. Pons has a fine 2 star Michelin restaurant. The nearest boulangerie is in Champagnolles – about 3 minutes away. The area is known for its vines that produce cognac and the local speciality Pineau de Charentes. If you are here when our own grapes are ripe you are very welcome to try them – they are very good indeed.
