Privately owned Chateau in a hamlet, set in 4 acres & south facing. This is our family house that we have owned for 20 years, it is very private but not remote looking out over open fields and vineyards. A super chateau if you are looking for a large house for 2 or 3 families to share or a holiday for an extended family with a large age range. It is in a quiet location with lots of space for children to kick footballs, hit tennis balls or ride bikes. But also plenty of private corners in which to read some of the hundreds of books or just sunbathe. Salon, dining room with open fire, well equipped kitchen, games room with table tennis and pool table. 4 acres of private grounds with swimming pool, bikes, children’s area. The swimming pool is in a separate walled garden through a door next to the barn. 20 minutes drive to Cognac for the distilleries or St Jean D'Angely for the restaurants and farmers markets. Explore the Roman amphitheatre in nearby Saintes.

The Chateau faces south over open fields in the small hamlet of Le Pignaud near Aumagne where there is a post office, shop, bar and tennis courts. Bread is delivered daily to the house and supermarkets and farmers markets are approx 10 minutes drive away in the delightful market towns of Matha or St Jean D'Angely. You will also find a range of restaurant options in the towns from Gourmet to Pizza. The beaches of Royan and La Palmyre are about 45mins drive SW or one hour NW takes you to La Rochelle. Cognac and the distilleries are a 15 minute drive or a lovely day trip by bike - just don't drink too much at lunchtime! The surrounding countryside is fairly flat which is great for cycling and falls within the Cognac production area so there are a lot of small producers of Cognac and Pineau - a local fortified wine, which is why it is better to explore by bike! The area is very unspoiled with pretty villages and friendly locals but with excellent restaurants and markets nearby.

Notes: It is a great house for children with lots of space indoors and out. The main stairs are wide and fine for mobile elderly people, however as there is no downstairs bedroom accommodation and there are three entry steps to the house it is unfortunately not suitable for the disabled. We are not smokers and smoking is not permitted in the house. The television has a DVD player attached. We have a satellite dish and cable TV is available giving you the BBC TV and radio stations among others, The Internet access is wireless broadband and available on a PC in the dining room, however we cannot guarantee that it will be working if for example a previous tenant has messed up the setting as it is hard to support remotely although 2009 passes without incident!. There is a stereo with CD player and MP3 cable connection for an IPOD, the PC also has a large library of music on it that can be played throught the stereo using Media Player. There are 10+ bikes in various states of repair!

Delightful property, perfect for 3 families sharing. Setting is stunning - quiet and secluded among fields of sunflowers. Completely fenced in gardens and pool, our children roamed around and kept themselves entertained for hours. Cupboards of books and games, big squashy sofas, lots of sun loungers, well equipped modern kitchen with endless amounts of glassware and crockery. Like staying in a friends house rather than a holiday let.

Lovely outdoor seating area where we chatted away the evenings drinking the local wine and eating gorgeous food from the nearby market. The baker delivered us fresh bread and pastries every morning in time for breakfast!

Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys getting away from it all.

The description was very accurate regarding the beautiful location and layout of the house. The pool area couldnt have been any more secure than it was and maintained all week. The property was clean and incredibly well equiped to provide a real home from home feeling. It made a fantastic venue for a large party which included many young children under the age of 5 especially as it was all enclosed keeping children very safe. The grounds were also very well kept and provided lots of space to eat outside and barbeque. There was also a good area for children to enjoy running around and playing on bikes or a swing set. All the appliances in the house were new and in good working order. The lady delivering fresh bread etc every morning was very pleasant and her goodies were excellent. The owner provided good customer care and was willing to give help and advice were needed.

A group of seven of us stayed at Chez Meeson and had the most brilliant week. The house is gorgeous, spacious and has everything you might want for a week in France: bikes, table tennis, bbq and comfy beds! The pool is perfect and many games of frisbee were had in the large gardens/paddock. We ate delicious food from the local markets, visited the Ile d'Oleron for great beaches, had amusing (flat!) cycle rides and lots of relaxing and reading. I only wish it had lasted longer! If you want a raving night life this won't be the place for you, but if you just want to relax with friends/family and have some peace and quiet I can't imagine you'll be disappointed.
