Aquitaine or Gironde is a fascinating and unspoilt region of France. Moulin de Rioupassat is in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers Bordeaux wine region and vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. One could spend an entire two week holiday exploring chateaux and wine tasting – there are 12000 chateaux in the Bordeaux region!

The area is outstanding in other ways. The coastline is magnificent and Le Bassin d’Arcachon is just over an hour from Rauzan. If you are energetic enough to climb the Dune de Pyla (the highest sand dune in Europe) you will enjoy stunning views of the bay and Cap Ferret peninsula. As well as safe and sheltered beaches, the coastline here supports a thriving oyster and fishing industry. There are many great restaurants at Arcachon and Cap Ferret. Bordeaux itself is an interesting city with good shops, museums, cinemas and of course restaurants. Closer to home, medieval St Emilion, a village synonymous with wine, is a fascinating place to visit.

What some of our guests have said about us:: 'Just wanted to let you know that we all had a fantastic time last week. The house was superb, the wine great and your choice of restaurant for the lunch we had was fantastic - way above and beyond anything one could get in London for set menu costing €28!!!! Anyway, there's already talk of heading back to the Moulin in the summer'

'Thank you for making us so welcome in your wonderful house. Your advice and recommendations were great.'

Many thanks for our lovely holiday at the Moulin de Rioupassat : we enjoyed our two weeks there as much as any we have spent in France. You have certainly done a superb job with the Moulin. The accommodation and the equipment were first-rate and the cleanliness and general upkeep of the Moulin quite outstanding.

'A lovely house, very well equipped for a family holiday.'

Other Activities:

Wine tasting, visit historic St Emilion, chateaux visits, cave trips, food and antique markets

'I just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you for all your help whilst we stayed at the Moulin de Rioupassat and to say how much we enjoyed it. The accommadation was fantastic and all of the small things just add to the experience- the basket of food upon arrival, etc....'

Absolutely Stunning French Country Living

Review Submitted: May 12, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
It's hard to know where to begin, but this lovely restored watermill is everything you dream it should be ! The pictures and description of the villa don't do this property justice! It is very well maintained by owners Clara and Graham and has all the amenities to make your vacation something special. The Johnson's also know the true meaning of customer service by making themselves available for any questions or recommendations regarding dining and entertainment in their area of France. My son especially enjoyed the horses who would graze alongside the villa in the picturesque pastures that surround the home. With the world's best wines minutes away at the local wine co-op and fresh local village markets to supply all your food requirements, you will also have every thing you need to dine in. We spent a beautiful evening at a local restaurant, La Poudette, which Clara kindly recommended and made reservations for us. It was the best meal we had dining out ! We certainly would recommend this villa and hope to return one day to continue to explore the south of France. Many thanks to the Johnson's.

Fantastic Family Holiday!

Review Submitted: February 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
We stayed in this wonderful watermill last summer and had a fantastic time. The house was great and accomadated all 10 us very comfortably. The pool and outside kitchen were a massive plus in such a peaceful setting we rarely dinned indoors.

The owners were also very helpful and really looked after us during our time there. They had great recommendaions for days out and some wonderful restaurant suggestions that we would never have found by ourselves!
