Aquitaine or Gironde is a fascinating and unspoilt region of France. Moulin de Rioupassat is in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers Bordeaux wine region and vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. One could spend an entire two week holiday exploring chateaux and wine tasting – there are 12000 chateaux in the Bordeaux region!
The area is outstanding in other ways. The coastline is magnificent and Le Bassin d’Arcachon is just over an hour from Rauzan. If you are energetic enough to climb the Dune de Pyla (the highest sand dune in Europe) you will enjoy stunning views of the bay and Cap Ferret peninsula. As well as safe and sheltered beaches, the coastline here supports a thriving oyster and fishing industry. There are many great restaurants at Arcachon and Cap Ferret. Bordeaux itself is an interesting city with good shops, museums, cinemas and of course restaurants. Closer to home, medieval St Emilion, a village synonymous with wine, is a fascinating place to visit.
