15th Century Manor House and Country Home in the heart of Loire valley - France

Le manoir de Champfreau is a home of great comfort and character, furnished with a collection of antiques and fine art with all the the amenities of modern living. Within its 3 acres of wall gardens, partially moated, centred on 50 acres, enjoy the privacy this home offers. In summer its thick walls keep a welcomed coolness including a beautiful swimming pool, and, in winter, in front of a blazing fire, you will find contentment and serenity. TWO beautiful homes are available for renting: the Manoir, sleeping 6 and Maison Louis Richard, a beautifully appointed country home, sleeping 2. Both may be rented sleeping a totoal of 8 people.

Varennes sur Loire is situated along the Loire river, 12 kilometres east of Saumur, mid distance between the towns of Tours and Angers in a UNESCO protected site. DIRECTIONS: If you are approaching Saumur, stay on the north side of the Loire River. (Saumur proper is on the south side). You will travel east on the D152 from Saumur, in the direction of Tours for 12 km (10 minutes),then you will come to a large metal bridge crossing the Loire River, on your right. DO NOT CROSS THE RIVER. At this intersection the sign will show VARENNES -SUR-LOIRE on the right. Travel 1km into VARENNES and in the centre of the village, with the church on the right (this is a 'T' intersection), turn left (west) at the BAR COMMERCE onto rue des SABATIERS (this rue turns into rue de la Croix des Noues) We are at number 8. One half km out of the village you will see a wind mill on the left and then a large metal warehouse. Across from the warehouse is a large CRUCIFIX. This is the drive to the Manoir

This beautiful large home sleeps 2,with a large bedroom, bathroom with shower, large salon w/ fireplace and huge crystal chandelier, large dining room, large equipped kitchen and lovely entranceway. Fully equipped for self catering. Price: 900 per week. A 3 day minimum rental at 400 euros is possible as are long term rentals at a reduced rate. The POOL is not included in this rental. This is an extremely elegant home to rent filled with beautiful antiques and comfortable furniture.

Set within the Loire valley Nature park, this area has recently been included on UNESCO's world patrimony list to preserve the spectacular scenery along 180 miles of the Loire, the last wild river in Europe. The Loire valley is famous for its many chateaux where kings and their courts built an impressive array of stately homes ranging from medieval times through every period and style to the second empire in the mid 19th Century. This area is also known for its wine: Chinon, Bourgeuil or the rich, sweet wine of Coteau du Layon or the sparklings of Saumur. 'Le Cadre Noir', the classical academic riding school is based in Saumur (8 miles away) and gives gala evenings from April to October. The 'Futureoscope of Poitiers' is only few hours drive away. So come and enjoy!

Christmas and New Year holiday rental available. During the holiday, the manoir is decorated with Christmas tree, evergreens, holly and misletoe. A swimming pool will be available in 2004. Spring and autums mid-week and weekend rentals available. American owned, English and French spoken.
