Charming French Petit Chateau in peaceful parklike grounds, heated pool
Cristallin, a petit chateau of great charm, sits on the edge of the small and tranquil village of Charzais, hidden away behind stone walls and magnificent iron gates. There is a large heated pool (with security cover) in the 4500m² park like grounds which are dotted with statues, fruit trees, grape vines, and huge trees including an ancient magnolia grandiflora. This is a beautiful sprawling french country garden, unmanicured and a true delight to discover. This gas centrally heated residence which also has several fireplaces would make a marvellous venue for a family Christmas. Ideally suited to groups of friends or large families holidaying together, the property is entirely at the disposal of the guests with exclusive use of the pool. The rooms have an air of faded grandeur and have been decorated with furniture and objects collected by the owners from the local antique shops. The style of the property could be described as shabby chic. Comfortable beds, quality linens.

HISTORY
Legend has it that the village of Charzais derives its name from a contraction of 'Cour des Sarrazais' - the Court of the Saracens. In the eighth century many defeated saracens worked as serfs on the land around Charzais. Until the early twentieth century, the walled garden in which Cristallin stands was still known as 'La Cours'. In the mid-nineteenth century the chateau was owned by Dr Chevallereau, a foremost Parisian eye doctor. It was he who named the property Cristallin, meaning 'clear vision'. The doctor would travel from Paris with his entourage to spend the summer months at Cristallin. Among his visitors was the Impressionist painter Madelaine Fleury who studied under Claude Monet. Her painting of a local ruin, 'Chateau de La Citardierre' is among the paintings which cover the salon walls.
WHY RENT A HOUSE WHEN YOU CAN RENT A CHATEAU?
Why limit yourself to a villa, gite or holiday house when for the same price (and often less ...) you can rent a beautiful chateau!? Ideal for a family holiday but also a wonderfully romantic experience for couples. Our rates are very competitive and at certain times of the year it is possible for a small group or couple to rent the chateau for the same price or less than the cost of a villa. If you are thinking of taking a sabbatical, or perhaps would like to take time out to discover the artist or writer in you, contact us and we can put together a good rate for you ... whether your stay be short or long term. The region is a gourmet's paradise with many wonderful local gastronomic delights and fabulous local markets. Hugh's collection service was spot on. Thank you! And Cristallin lived up to all our expectations. Wonderful. You score maximum points with very happy guests. Yet best of all was your music collection - Fab! With very warm regards, Douglas.
All in all we had a brilliant time, just what we needed to recharge the batteries. Thanks again for the chance to stay in your home, the pictures are great of the kids enjoying the pool should you wish them for a brochure. Would also love updates on the chateau as it looks like a labour of love and I can't wait to get back to work to tell everyone about it as they were quite envious when I told them of our plans
Regards, Erica and Mark
I loved Cristallin. It's a beautiful property, sensitively decorated and with plenty of character combined with comfort (great beds!). The grounds are beautiful. Plenty of great things for the kids to do and see - as well as a beautiful place to relax for the rest of us! Warm regards,Samantha
