Pride of place in the south facing garden is the magnificent heated swimming pool measuring 15m x 8m. There is an additional 3m of roman steps which direct young children into the 1m shallow end and a 2.4m deep fun swimming end. The pool is situated within view of the individual terrace areas of all the houses so parents can keep an eye on the children. The pool is fenced with self locking child-proof gate. The 2 acre garden is walled so it is impossible for little ones to escape.
There is a games barn with pool table, table tennis and table football, plus a children's corner with games, books, videos and dvds. Outside there is a boules pitch, swings, seesaw, sand pit and badminton set, plus plenty of space for ball games.
Beaches:
Within 20 minutes drive of Font Remy you will find some of the best sandy beaches in Europe. The 3 star Michelin rated 2km long fine sandy beach at Royan stretches north to south from the marina to the cliffs of Vallieres at Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. Here you can hire the wonderful old-fashioned blue and white tents to protect you from the hot summer sun from where you can watch the kids learn to windsurf, body board or sail at the water sports centre.
The beach continues between the two cliffs at Saint-Georges-De-Didonne,. From the path around the lighthouse on the cliff there are beautiful views of the Pointe de Grave, the Pointe de Suzac and the lighthouse at Cordouan. At the Pointe de Suzac, there is a path, which goes along the cliff, and this makes a very pleasant walk to Meschers. At Merchers and Les Plages des Vergnes you will find sandier coves with caves and rock pools. The beaches of the Cote Sauvage (north of Royan) have the best waves and fabulous sand dunes.
Royan is a centre for water sports such as windsurfing and sailing. There is more surfing and sailing on the Cote Sauvage and Ile D’Oleron.
Cycling is one of the most popular pastimes in Charente Maritime. There is a network of quiet lanes winding amongst the vineyards around Font Remy and Mortagne, and there are numerous cycle tracks in the area. Either bring your own bikes or hire them loat Font Remy. As you would also expect, it is a wonderful area for walking with some breathtaking views of the estuary beyond the vineyards. Golfers are well catered for with excellent courses at Royan, Saintes, Cognac and Bordeaux.
There are always birds of prey circling in the area around Font Remy and you will hear and see many black redstarts, cuckoos and hoopoes. The area as a whole is excellent for spotting migratory birds (particularly spring and autumn), birds of prey and wild foul. There are good horse riding and tennis facilities locally. Fishing, jet-skiing, parasailing....
