The nearest town is Saintes which as well as offering many places to visit with its Roman Heritage, has all your shopping needs. These attractive, comfortable and very well equipped gites are ideal for family holidays with everything you would need for a young family. Or this peaceful setting is ideal for a quiet get away. Spend the day by the pool or relaxing in the garden. Or visit one of the many beaches most of which are just a 35 minute drive. Also perfectly located for those who wish to explore the area or to just relax and enjoy the weather! With beautiful sunny days throughout the year this makes it a perfect location for walking and cycling and enjoying the surrounding countryside and for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages.

L’Olivier and la Petite Bergerie are situated in the charming small village of Crazannes. The village has a butcher’s, baker’s and post office. It is only a 5 min. walk to the beautiful river Charente, with local Chateaux of Crazannes and Panloy at Port d’Envaux also a short walk. It is only a 15 minute drive from the market town of Saintes, so shops and restaurants are within easy reach. The closest ferry port at St Malo is approximately a 4½ hour drive, Cherbourg is approximately a 6 hour drive. If you are travelling by air, the nearest airport is at La Rochelle with flights from Stansted, Southampton and Birmingham. La Rochelle airport is approximately 45 minutes. There is also Bordeaux airport which is about a 1½ hours drive, here there are flights from Gatwick.

All prices are from Saturday to Saturday during July and August all other dates arrival and departure dates can be flexible to make the most of those cheap flight deals!!! All prices include linen and tea towels. Towels can provided for a small extra charge.

  • £100 per week booked is required as confirmation of booking. The remainder payable eight weeks in advance of the start of the holiday. There is an additional refundable damage deposit.

It has been written in our guest book many times that “we have thought of everything” we hope you will find this to be true. We are able to provide (we think) everything you might need if you are travelling with small children. We have a young family so we know what it’s like to travel and take all the usual paraphernalia (leaving no room for that essential stock of local wines and cheeses on the return trip!). We can also offer babysitting for a small extra charge. The pool is fenced and shared. There is childrens play area with swings, 'wendy house' and sand pit.

What's in the area?: With just a 40 minute drive north west to the Atlantic coast you will find the sunny beaches of Fouras and Chatelaillon Plage. And to the south west, still just 40 minutes, there are the beautiful beaches of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and St Palais-sur-Mer. With many more but unfortunately we haven’t visited them all! With Cognac a 35 minute drive, tours around one of the famous Martell, Hennessy or Remy Martin distilleries are a must. Just 50 minutes from the beautiful coastal town of La Rochelle, a must for any shopper! La Rochelle has a wonderful ambience with many restaurants bursting on to the pavements. Seafood is of course the speciality. Just 60 minutes to the stunning Ile de Re. With wonderful shops to browse round at Ile de Martin and an amazing choice of pavement cafes and restaurants, all looking on to the harbour. Ile de Re has many beautiful beaches and more wonderful quaint villages to wonder around.

Superb Family Holiday Gite

Terry and Catherine have thought of everything. The gite is beautifully renovated and furnished with everything you need for a family holiday from a well equiped kitchen to toys and videos for the children. This will be our third holiday with them this year (2008) and we can't wait for our 2 weeks enjoying the gite, pool and surrounding countryside.

A lovely holiday!

L'Olivier is a beautifully furbished Gite, done with attention to detail, great taste and quality equipment. There was everything needed to ensure a relaxing and comfortable holiday. With plenty of garden area and super pool, all well maintained, we all had a great time. Our 2 girls were quite happy to spend the whole day just jumping in and out of the pool and playing in the garden with Catherine and Terry's 2 lovely children.

We received a friendly welcome with wine, local cheese and bread left out for us. Catherine and Terry are available if needed and really charming and fun but also completely unobtrusive so that your Gite and garden are your own private area despite them being close by.

Whilst the surrounding area is peaceful and relaxing, there are many towns and villages to visit with restaurants catering for all tastes. The river Charante is also close by offering all water sports or where you can just just take a leisurely stroll. Our children particularly enjoyed the repilca motorised boats on the lake and St Savinien, and we ended up going there 3 times!!

We fell in love with the nearby City of Saintes with its beautiful architecture, pretty streets, shops, cafes and restaurants, not to mention its culture and historic roman attractions.

We spent a few days travelling out to the coast for visits to the beaches which were beatiful. However we always enjoyed returning in the evenings to the peace and tranquility of Crazanne

We have already recommended these Gites to family and friends and will definately be returning ourselves at some time in the future.

A perfect family holiday

We had a wonderful 2 weeks. The gite, garden and pool were perfect. The gite is beautifully renovated, with all our needs catered for. The children's toys and outside play equipment were a big hit with our children as was all the baby equipment Catherine provided. The gardens are beautiful (great place for hide and seek). The children loved the pool and their swimming and confidence in the water has improved no end. We had lovely weather and spent time on the local beaches. There is plenty to do in this area for families with young children. Thank you Catherine and Terry for a wonderful holiday and are looking forward to our return to you next year.

Outstanding gite and service

My family enjoyed a perfect holiday in mid France, well worth the travel. The garden was fantastic fun for the children along with the sandpit, swings, playhouse and garden snails. Service is above and beyond the standard provided in France with superb attention to detail, a wonderful personal touch from Terry and Catherine. Very clean and well organised, beautifully presented bedrooms
and well managed/maintained. Also very thoughtful were the toys and the videos for the children. Great cooking and washing facilities, the gite is warm and the log burner adds a romatic touch to a glass of cognac. Superb sun trap and BBQ in a further enclosed garden for an aperitif. Well sited with quick access to the beaches, aquarium, fun parks, town markets, Vineyards and not far from Bordeaux and the Perigords (bon appetit). A very peaceful and restful environment, either to get-away-from-it-all or induldge in some French culture and goodies. Very highly recommended gite, we enjoyed warm sunny afternoons watching the children play. One last thing - the entire surrounding area is safe and clean. No rubbish.

Highly Recommeded Gite

We had an excellent short stay out of season (October), not only were we blessed by the weather, which was excellent, but the gite was exceptional and ideal for us with our 4 year old, who enjoyed the huge range of videos and the swings in the garden!

Catherine and Terry were excellent hosts and I would recomend this gite to any wanting a quiet retreat in a lovely and underestimated part of France.

Almost forgot about the wonderful log burner in the front room, ideal for autumn and winter.
