Le Domaine de la Goujonne is on the edge of the Bordeaux wine region and a half-hour drive from the ancient town of St-Emilion. There is a host of Chateaux to visit in the St-Emilion and Pomerol region, some offering guided tours as well as having well-stocked cellars from which purchases can be made. St Emilion itself is a quaint, historic town full of some wonderful churches, towers and medieval buildings. It is also close to the cognac region and the major distilleries have regular guided tours that provide a fascinating insight into the production of the world famous brandy. Bordeaux, a 40-minute drive, is an historic town with a chic shopping centre and many interesting buildings. It becomes alive on Sunday mornings with an antique/flea market that spreads around the cobbled streets and attracts collectors and bargain hunters from a wide region. There is also a large out-of-town shopping centre that is well worth a visit.
The Dordogne region, with its rivers and glorious countryside, starts within a few kilometres of Le Domaine de la Goujonne and a days tour can soak-up some of the wonderful atmospheres of the region, with its towns, markets and ancient buildings, not to mention a myriad of excellent regional eateries. Do not forget the Atlantic coast with Royan and its miles of sandy beaches and Arcachon and the world famous Dune du Pyla

A big thank you to the Appletons for making our holiday happen at such short notice. We all very much enjoyed our needed break. The food etc on arrival was an excellent gesture! We love the place - hope to return next year (Davisons - Yorkshire).
Most of the fun of this holiday has got to be down to the lodge with its endless supply of activities, swimming, table tennis, boules, badminton etc. Perfect sized rooms, perfect lodge and a perfect setting - what more could you wish for. I recommend going to the lake about 5 mins away - great fun especially the boats. If you want a relaxing stay I recommend you stay here at the lodge. (B Sandle Midlands).
Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing retreat. We've hardly moved from the grounds. The pool, BBQ etc have been greatly enjoyed. A real tonic of a holiday for us all. (D Whitmore - Stoke).
