The properties occupy a delightful rural location offering peace, quiet and space, but at the same time being only 10 mins from all amenities and 40 mins from several wonderful sandy beaches. Although no pool, there is the river Charente 200 m down a grassy track with a small pebble beach for easy access for swimming, canoeing (we have one here you can use) or fishing. (we have rods) There are three cottages offering different types of accommodation, but all bright sunny and airy with high ceilings, exposed beams, wood burning stoves (except the studio) and heating. There are mature trees and space between each offering shade and privacy where wanted. There is a very large garden and adjoining field which is wonderful for children, large or small, to amuse themselves, play, pitch tents etc. or for you to choose a shady (or sunny) nook to sit and contemplate. English French-speaker on-site all year round.

The cottage is light, airy and spacious and has just undergone further renovation to bring it up to a higher standard. It has a bedroom with pretty provincial furniture including a 5 foot double bed, a good sized living room with a cosy wood burning stove for your winter visits, 3' divan/daybed and a double sofa-bed. There is a separate fitted kitchen with washing machine and a bathroom with spa shower. Outside you have a large terrace with garden furniture and barbecue, screened from the rest of the land by a beautiful weeping willow which also offers privacy and ample shade when necessary although it does not shade the terrace. The rest of the large garden is at your disposal.

This lovely cottage is set in rural surroundings with the river Charente 300m down a small track. There is a little stony beach into the river from which you can swim, canoe or fish. Several excellent golf courses and horse-riding centres are within easy reach, the nearest being only 15 mins away just outside the beautiful Roman town of Saintes, where you can find indoor and outdoor pools and plenty of other things to do. The countryside is ideal for cycling as there is little traffic. There is an abundance of local châteaux and vineyards where they are happy for you to taste their wines and cognac. Restaurants and bars abound as do fascinating activities for all The beautiful sandy beaches are within 40 min with safe bathing for children Our lovely rural retreat is an ideal spot to sit peacefully watching the wildlife particularly the birds which can be seen on the marsh during migration There is much fun to be had watching the nesting storks go about their business from March-August

Notes: Although we have no pool , avoiding spoiling the peaceful environment for other guests, the river, clean and delightful for swimming, is just down a short track with a stony beach for access. Jellies or surfing/boarding shoes recommended for getting in and out.

This July we spent two restful weeks in “La Petit Pommerai”. We liked the house from the first sight. Everything we found as promised in the internet. The description from the house and the
interior was right. All things were on the right place. The bright, friendly was with complete equipment. Most of all, everything was very clean. Also we liked to sit on the terrace in the
wonderful great garden and enjoyed the peaceful evenings. Angela is very hospitable and has done a great job in renovation of the old houses. We got a very useful description how to arrive. Thanks to her for everything. The house is very central to reach all the wonderful beaches and the lovely towns in the surrounding. After all we were very sorry to leave and we are looking forward for our next stay.

Fantastic retreat

We stayed in the cottage for a week at the beginning of August, the weather was great. The cottage was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped for our family of 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 dog. The garden is quite large and very well maintained and although it is shared with the other accommodation, the shrubs and trees give plenty of privacy. Angela was very helpful and accommodating giving us any information we needed about the area. The river close by was very clean and slow running making it ideal for swimming and boating. Saintes is a beautiful historic town with great markets selling fresh produce most days. There are also picturesque villages near by with restaurants, bistros and boating equipment to hire. Overall we had a fantastic, restful holiday and our only complaint is that we didn't book for longer.

A peaceful haven

Our stay here was a real delight. The accommodation was first class.... a bright, tasteful yet sympathetic conversion of an old building, providing every comfort. If we needed anything the owner was always very pleasant and helpful.
The surrounding area is really lovely, with a beautiful river flowing only a few hundred yards away. We used the canoe and had a marvellous day gently paddling through idyllic surroundings, stopping for tea and ice creams en route.
We also loved the ancient town of Sainte with its bustling market and cafes set amongst stunning architecture. The Roman amphitheatre is well worth a visit.
Our whole experience was truly memorable, and we'd recommend a stay here to anyone.

Lovely homey holidays in rural area

We spend two calm weeks in a lovely small domicile near the river Charente. Every day we do trips to touristic highlights in the area and to the atlantic coast. It was warm and sunny nearly every day and a breeze from the atlantic made an outside stay wonderfull.

Wir verbrachten wunderbare zwei Wochen im Etable Ganz, zwei Erwachsene und drei Kinder. Die Lage ist ruhig, ländlich und bietet eine perfekte Mischung von alter Bausubstanz und modernem Komfort. Einfach aber sehr geschmacksvoll eingerichtet, ist das Ferienhaus eine Oase für die Erholung und die Entspannung. Die Besitzerin ist hilfsbereit, freundlich und aufgestellt, es machte jedesmal richtig Spass mit ihr zu schwatzen. Aus diesem zentral gelegenen Ort kann man die ganze Region Charente erkunden, mit seinen vielfältigen Angeboten: wunderschöne entlegene Küsten (Grand Cote), interessanter Austernanbaugebiet (Marennes), einladende Inseln (Ré, Oleron, Aix), Cognacgebiet, mittelalterliche Schlösser, atemberaubende Steinbrüche (Crazannes), überaschende Landstreiche voller Kanäle (marais poitevins), etc. Ideal zum Fahrradfahren, zu Fuss erkunden und sich von der lokalen Küche verwöhnen zu lassen. Mit oder ohne Kinder eine gemütliche und unvergessliche Feriendestination.
