Maison Poirier provides you with comfortable, well equipped & spacious accommodation whilst retaining it's character & original features. Relax in the gardens or by the swimming pool & enjoy the many games available. Visit the historic towns of Saintes, Cognac and Angouleme. The Atlantic Coast is less than 1 hr away with it's amazing beaches at Royan, Isle d'Oleron, Fouras, Chatelaillon Plage and Isle de Ré. Alternatively, you can take advantage of the local countryside, walk in the vineyards or woods surrounding the hamlet, or cycle the myriad of peaceful lanes. The park at Cognac is a must for the kids. Try canoeing or fishing on the Charente River, or visit the superb aquarium at La Rochelle & zoo at La Palmyre. For the golf enthusiast there are courses at Cognac, Saintes & La Rochelle. In the evening sit back & enjoy a glass of Pineau whilst deciding where to dine. There is a BBQ in your own private courtyard or sample the culinary delights of the superb local restaurants.

The cottage is nestled in the heart of the Cognac and Pineau producing region, in a small hamlet close to the village of Migron, approximately 20kms NE of Saintes (20 mins) and 15kms NE of Cognac (15 mins) yet only 1 hour from the Atlantic coast and it's amazing beaches. The Charente-Maritime with it's exhilarating micro-climate offers much interest. You can explore the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice), visit the historic towns such as Angouleme, Poitiers, Saintes, La Rochelle, the Cognac distilleries or even Futuroscope. There are numerous good (and reasonably priced) restaurants in the area and the superb local markets offer an amazing range of fresh seafood, farm produce and cheeses. The nearest airports are La Rochelle (75mins) and Bordeaux (90 mins), nearest railway station is Angouleme (45 mins) and ferry terminal is Caen (5 hours).

Notes: To the rear of the property is your own private courtyard with private access and covered parking for your car. There is an eating area with garden furniture, BBQ and feature well. To the front of the cottage is the main courtyard which leads to the mature gardens where you will find the 10m x 5m roman ended swimming pool that has ample sun loungers and parasols, and is fenced for security. Overlooking the pool is the stone built summerhouse with traditional Charantaise fireplace providing a BBQ facility. It has a comfortable seating area for protection against the hot summer sun, table and chairs for al fresco dining, fridge for keeping your drinks chilled and a CD player for your musical entertainment. Games and leisure facilities include, children's playhouse and sand pit, pool table, table football, table tennis, croquet, badminton, darts, pétanque and last but not least bikes (child seats and headgear are available). Internet connection is also available in the cottage.

Further details: All bed linen is supplied and pool towels only can be made available on request. Iron and ironing board is provided. Cot, high chair, baby bath, etc. available, if required. You will receive a welcome basket on arrival. A free taxi service to the local restaurant is available with prior notice.

Special needs: The cottage layout with all it's main rooms located on the ground floor is ideal for guests with mobility difficulties.

Great family friendly property

We spent 10 days (30th May - 8th June) at the property and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our 2 yr old daughter loved the sand pit, wendy house and swimming pool. We also made use of the games room playing pool, table tennis and darts. The owners were very hospitable but not intrusive. The property was clean and very well equipped - especially witht the provision of a cot, high chair and toys for our children. Would thoroughly recommend it!

Lovely property - well maintained, well equipped, clean and very pleasant. The rooms were all large, bright and airy and nicely
furnished. The outside area was lovely - especially the summer house and an immaculate pool. Loved the games room too! The owners were friendly but not intrusive.

Appreciated the welcome basket - the best we have ever had!

Would recommend to anyone visiting this area!

EXCELLENT MUCH BETTER THAN WE EVER IMAGENED

We arrived, what a great welcome and wonderful gite, the space and layout was perfect & bigger than expected for our group of six, 2 adults and four girls over the age of 14 years, The pool was wonderful, great size and the summer house what can I say the girls liked to chill there , I stayed there out of the sun but was still part of the fun, and a great place to eat alfresco. The games room was a bonus a was used by all the family including the bikes.
The location was central to to a number of towns, Cognac although we did'nt visit it until Friday was lovely, should have gone there earlier,found a lovely little restaurant by the side of the indoor market, very french and the dictionary came in handy (necessary).
Thank you so much to our hosts they were very helpful in person and also provided a great deal of information in the Gite.
We would recommed to anyone wanting to tour this area.

Exceeded all our expectations

In August 2008 our family of 8 - (5 adults and 3 children aged 12, 5 and 3) enjoyed a fantastic holiday at Maison Poirier. The property is set in a pretty and peaceful rural setting yet within 15-20 minutes of Saintes and Cognac.
The cottage exceeded all our expectations - the accommodation was both comfortable and spacious and the outside areas also provided lots of space for all the family. We were particularly pleased at the size of the garden where the children could run around and let off steam.
The pool area (always a worry when you have small children) was very safe and secure.
Amanda and Ian, the owners of this property, live in an adjoining accommodation.
They were most friendly and helpful, always on hand to deal with any problems, but never instrusive.
I would recommend this property highly and we will most definitely be returning.
