Pretty holiday cottage in the Royan area, near the sea with swimming pool
A charming cottage, newly created from antiquated farm buildings in a pretty enclosed garden with a swimming pool [shared with the owners]. Situated in a vineyard & sunflower-surrounded village overlooking the sea, near many beautiful, safe, sandy beaches: Meschers (15 mins), St Georges de Didonne (20) as well as the Atlantic rollers & dunes of the Cote Sauvage. There are little fishing ports nearby, two in walk able distance. The area is full of wildlife & great for bird watchers. Numerous excellent restaurants cater to all tastes - the local seafood is legendary. Many of the local wine growers open their doors to visitors for tastings of cognac, pineau & wine. There are plenty of places of interest nearby, e.g. Talmont, one of the prettiest villages in France, & La Palmyre with its wonderful zoo. Cognac, Saintes, Royan & Bordeaux are all beautiful historic towns with excellent golf courses. The Medoc on the opposite side of the Gironde is easily reached by ferry from Royan.

The pool and the garden are shared with the owners; part of the garden is allocated to guests so that they can have privacy, and guests will have their own garden furniture and barbecue. There are some simple safety rules which will apply to the use of the pool and the garden. There is parking available in the garden for a normal size family car. Books, board games and some beach toys are available as well as a small selection of dvds. Babysitting can be arranged if enough notice is given (we've had four children, so we understand all about this!). A baker's van stops outside the gates 6 mornings a week. there are 3 good restaurants within a short distance all with different styles, our favorite is an Irish / French bar run by a young couple whose food and welcome have delighted many of our visitors. |
