Chenac is a village overlooking the Gironde Estuarynear to Royan.It is surrounded by rolling countryside with breathtaking views of the sea. Its port, St Seurin d'Uzet ,France's one-time capital of caviar, is 1.5 km away and the local village shop is there. Chenac has its own tennis court and tickets can be bought from the Mairie.
Wine production, oyster culture, fishing ,and farming are the major local occupations. The nearest large towns are Royan[20mins],a busy seaside town with masses of entertainment for all ages from classical beach concerts to huge firework displays, and Saintes[35mins]with its Cathederals and Roman remains. Many of the nearby towns and villages have markets [in Royan daily]. Cozes [10 mins] has doctors, banks, shops, pharmacies, a supermarket and a weekly market[Wednesday.] One of the local villages is always en Fete celebrating Saints days or local wines or melons! There are many cycle paths through the pine forests by the sea and in the countryside.
