Two luxurious cottages with superb facilities for swimming, tennis and carp fishing at Domaine de Villechaise - a magnificently restored small French chateau in one of the prettiest parts of the Charente, close to the famous village of Confolens. Both cottages are very large, cool and airy. They have modern facilities but have been carefully renovated to keep the French style and feel. The gardens and grounds of the chateau extend to 25 acres with hundreds of magnificent trees, shrubs and flowering plants, and support an amazing variety of birds and wildlife. There are excellent facilities for adults and children alike. Each cottage has a swimming pool, and there is a tennis court and large lake, the latter being well-stocked with coarse fish including some huge carp. Badminton, table tennis, croquet and boules are also available with golf nearby. The famous cities of Poitiers, Limoges and Angouleme are all within a 1 hour drive.

La Petite Maison is attached to the main chateau yet completely self-contained. It has a wealth of original features including beautiful mosaic floors downstairs and polished oak floors upstairs, and oak panelled walls. It has four equally-sized bedrooms with antique wash basins and bidets, and the three double rooms also feature the original marble fireplaces. There is a salon and separate dining room, together with a kitchen fitted with modern appliances. The kitchen and salon have doors leading out onto the extensive gardens with access to the 8m diameter swimming pool. In the rear garden is a separate covered area for eating, together with its own barbeque. In the front garden there is a children's play area with swings and a sandpit.

Domaine de Villechaise is in the hamlet named after it - Villechaise - on the D59 just 3km south of Confolens in the Charente region. It is convenient for the shops and restaurants of Confolens and within easy reach of the famous cities of Poitiers, Limoges and Angouleme. The Charente is an unspoilt and uncrowded region, criss-crossed by the wide clear waters of the Charente and Vienne rivers. There are rolling hills with pastures dotted with woodland - ideal terrain for rambling, following history-studded paths and deserted river banks. The wildlife is abundant - nightingales sing with nightjars in the evenings, red squirrels run across lawns, and buzzards fly overhead. There are plenty of sites to see and activities in the area - for both adults and children alike - including adventure parks, zoos, white water canoeing, museums, and the famous Confolens music festival in August.
